This course is designed to provide instruction and practice for the inactive licensed or unlicensed nurse to assist in the development of skills and knowledge required to assume a position as a staff nurse on a medical-surgical unit. This course consists of 120 hours of clinical and 60 hours of lecture on such topics as nursing process, pharmacology and drug administration, nursing trends, ethical/legal issues and current nursing practices. The clinical experience will run concurrently with lecture and will focus on application of knowledge and skills in a medical-surgical setting. You’ll be required to have a physical exam, criminal record check, current CPR Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers card, professional liability insurance and proof of licensure prior to the start of class. Nurse Aide Program This program consists of 72 hours of lecture and 56 hours of clinical and provides the skills to function as a nurse aide in a long-term care facility and meets the mandates of the federal government (via OBRA). After successful completion of the program, you’ll be able to function at the entry level and be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Certification exam. 12.8 CEUs will be awarded. You must complete a criminal history report and physical exam prior to enrollment.
