WHAT IS A GRIFFIN? The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head, beak, and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion, and occasionally, the tail of a serpent or scorpion. Its origin lies somewhere in the Middle East where it is found in the paintings and sculptures of the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. In Greek mythology, they took gold from the stream Arimaspias and, neighbors of the Hyperboreans, they belonged to Zeus. The later Romans used them for decoration and, even in Christian times, the Griffin motif often appears. Griffins were frequently used as gargoyles on medieval churches and buildings.

DUMKE FIELD Dumke Field, on the site of the Dane Hansen Stadium, was opened October 2, 1949, by college president Robert D. Steele (1939 to 1952). It was a gift of the George Hansen family in memory of a son and brother, Lt. Dane Hansen, Class of 1940, who lost his life in World War II. Having had seating for 1,200 attendants, the stadium has been the college soccer and activities field, commencement green, and later paved parking facility. In Fall 2005, it was transformed into a two-level parking structure, with an elevated artificial turf athletic field rebuilt on top. This facility is now the home field for the Griffins men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The facility has a seating capacity for 1,700 spectators. The facility is located on the Westminster College Campus - 1840 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84105. Enter campus from 1700 South and 1200 East - parking is free in either one of our parking garages.

ABOUT THE RMAC ABOUT THE RMAC The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is a premier NCAA Division II conference located in the states of Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Utah. The RMAC currently competes in 23 NCAA Division II sports and has earned 52 NCAA Division II national championships and 44 national runner-ups since 1992. Founded in 1909, the RMAC is the most historic athletic conference headquartered in the western United States and also in Division II.

SOPHOMORE (2014) Played in four games ... finished with 53 minutes of action. FRESHMAN (2013) Appeared in six games off the bench ... played 118 minutes on the season ... had one goal and three shots (two on goal) against Presentation in conference tournament (11/7). BEFORE WESTMINSTER Klein is a 5-foot-5 defender from Lehi, Utah where she attended Lehi High School. She was a three-time letter winter for the Pioneers that led the team in assists as a junior and tied for the team lead in goals as a senior. In her prep career, Klein scored five goals and she was named first team all-region following her senior campaign. She was also named academic all-state and a Math Sterling Scholar.

Started all 17 games to extend consecutive games played streak to 52 straight appearances ... second on team with 1,509 minutes played ... missed only nine minutes during final 10 games of the season ... attempted one shot during the season ... helped defense allow 0.94 goals per game ... was named to RMAC Academic Honor Roll. SOPHOMORE (2014) Played in and started all 21 games they team played ... led all field players with 1,865 minutes played ... played every minute of the teamâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s final 10 games of the season ... attempted four shots with two on goal ... key part of defense that allowed 0.71 goals per game ... was named Frontier Academic All-Conference. FRESHMAN (2013) Played in 19 games and started the final 12 outings at defense ... finished with 1,241 minutes of action ... only subbed out three times during final 12 starts ... was part of a defense that allowed just 0.76 goals per game. BEFORE WESTMINSTER Lewis came to Westminster from Boise, Idaho where the 5-foot-11 defender went to Boise High School. She was named second team Southern Idaho Conference as a senior. Lewis was also a member of the National Honors Society.

BEFORE WESTMINSTER Lorscheider joined the Griffins from Centerville, Utah where the 5-foot6 forward prepped at Viewmont High School. She was named first team all-state by the Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune after leading the Vikings to the Utah 5A state championship as a senior. Lorscheider led the team with 18 goals and she scored multiple goals in a game on six occasions. She was also named academic all-state her senior year.

Westminster set a school record with 15 wins in 2014 and they won a second regular season conference title by going 4-2 in league games. Matthew Berg begin shis first season as an assistant athletic trainer at

Westminster College. As part of his role, Berg will servce as the ATC for the

Westminster College. He has served in that position since coming to the

women’s soccer program.

Prior to joining Westminster, Hackford worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Utah State University during the 2003-04 season. He worked in the same role at Southern Utah University from 2000-2003. Hackford graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in History and Secondary Education. He then earned his Masters of Education from Utah State University. Hackford is Med, LAT, ATC and LMT certified.
