The Bay Window December 2023
Dream. Aspire. Achieve. Student Council Food Drive Each year the Williams Bay Elementary Student Council sponsors a food drive for the Elkhorn Food Pantry. This year each grade level was asked to bring a particular item of need for the school wide collection. This two week food drive included a friendly competition between grade levels. The grade level who collected the most items won an ice cream party. This year the total collection was 1362 items with 3rd grade winning with a total of 370 items. Several members of the student council helped unload these items at the food
pantry, then received a tour of the pantry with information about its purpose and function. The students stayed to sort and mark items with the expiration date.
Students Attend Fall FBLA Leadership Conference In the early morning hours of Monday, October 30, ten Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members, dressed in their business professional attire, boarded a school bus and headed to the Wisconsin FBLA Fall Leadership Conference in Middleton. The keynote speaker, Pat Cavanaugh, Event Sales and Service Manager for the Green Bay Packers, started the conference by emphasizing the importance of networking, not only for you to get to know people but also for people to get to know you. He also said that a handwritten, thoughtful thank you note and remembering people's names are powerful ways to set yourself apart from others. After the keynote address, members were able to pick various workshops to attend. One of the highlights was the workshop presented by the UW Madison Athletics Marketing and Event Operations Department. Members learned about the logistics that go into putting on a football game at Camp Randall Stadium or a basketball game at the Kohl Center. The marketing and promotions director explained how she works with the brand team for the football and men’s basketball teams to ensure the best in-game experience for all in attendance. The t-shirts being thrown into the stands, having a DJ to hype the crowd up at the Kohl Center, and creating the graphics on the jumbotron are all part of what the marketing and promotion department does. Most recently, this team was responsible for the halftime drone show during the Wisconsin vs.Ohio State football game. Another workshop focused on the competitive events that are part of the FBLA experience. Students were able to learn about some of the competitive events and finished the workshop by taking a practice test. Kara Rees and Elliana Pape said they enjoyed the workshop on “How to Present” which gave them tips and tricks for the presentation events. This conference allowed our newly formed chapter to get a taste of what FBLA is all about. We look forward to taking what we have learned and using it to develop a strong Williams Bay FBLA chapter.
