IN MEMORIAM MARTY MEYER, JR. 1925-1982 Marty Meyer. Chairman of the Science Department and a holder of the Dye-Pako Chair of Science. passed away on Saturday, October 2nd, 1982. Mr. Meyer was born on March 29, 1925. in Neenah, Wisconsin . A graduate of Neenah High School and a veteran of the United States Navy, he attended the University of Wisconsin on an athletic scholarship and received his Bachelor's degree in 1948 and his Master's degree in 1952. He had been an educator at Wayland since 1954. Included in those years, he was Athletic Director from 1957 to 1967, a 1•ili8hly successful football, track, baseball, and basketball coach, and later an area basketball referee. Mr. Meyer also taught and coached at Oregon and Horicon High Schools. His 1982 track team won the Midwest Prep Conference Championships and placed second in the WISAA Stat e Meet. He was a recipient of a National Scrence Foundation grant for four years. He is credited with the expansion of the independent studies program along with advancep biology and related science curricular studies. A Marty Meyer Memorial Scholarship has been established. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
