Hallucinatory Anthropomorphism: semi-abstract paraphysical manifestations of the collective unconscious.
This exhibition was at Watters Gallery, Sydney, from 18 June - 6 July, 2013, the year that Reg Mombassa was Sydney's New Year's Eve Creative Ambassador.
Chris O'Doherty joined Watters Gallery in 1975, before his rise to fame as Reg Mombassa with the band Mental as Anything, and then as the highest profile artist for Mambo Graphics. His first involvement with Watters Gallery was the exhibition 'Ocker Funk' which showcased anti-formalist art, which was not in vogue at the time.
Chris O'Doherty's work has a large following. Most people discern that beneath the humour in his work lies the expression of serious insights and sympathies.
