For our community’s 46th anniversary, a few residents shared fond memories, photos and favorite things they enjoy about life at Watergate at Landmark.

Watergate at Landmark has many pleasures, but I think what I treasure most are the beautiful scenery and landscaping. I never cease to enjoy the many flowers, shrubs, trees— including some unique ones—and spots to sit and admire the view. Wildlife brings me a mockingbird’s glorious song, a robin’s hunt-and-peck, butterflies unaware of their beauty and industrious chipmunks and squirrels. Once a little movement in the grass turned out to be a tiny beige toad...now I look forward to a visit from the cicadas.

...I love living at Watergate, with its beautiful landscape, fresh air, safety, and other various activities...socializing and our very own restaurant, cafe and a convenience store offered to the residents!

“I love the security, the people and the many amenities. My greatest loved activity is Pickleball. I play five days a week. Great exercise and great social.”

I enjoyed a great meal of quesadillas at the Marketplace.

Sometime in the early 80s, the skating rink was built on the common area just outside the Community Center as a result of intense lobbying by Eleanor Kline,...whose Winter domain it became as long as she was able to skate. During the Winter, particularly on Saturdays and Sundays, the rink was well populated by a handful of residents.

“Watergate kids celebrated the end of the COVID closures and the start of summer with a Tom and Jerry movie night. They were joined by some of our older Jerry fans for a fun evening in the Community Center.”

When I bought my condo here in 1978 I remember my realtor Jim Honeycutt saying, ‘This is the best-kept secret in Northern VA.’ We should shout it from the rooftop how great it is to live here. WAL is like living in a country club. Where in the world in VA can you live on 39 beautifully landscaped acres, have access to indoor and outdoor pools - the big attraction for me - plus other activities within walking distance from home and you don't have to do maintenance? When in need of help there is always someone willing to offer a hand. I left for a few years, searching for the perfect place to retire. We returned to WAL. I really missed the diversity of this area. The downside is so few owners take the time to vote for our board members. Thank you WAL staff for all you do for us!
