VISUAL JOURNAL, ALTERED BOOKS & BOOKMAKING COURSE DESCRIPTION In this introductory course, students will explore creative design, imagery and expression. Students will begin the course by constructing, binding and embellishing a one of a kind book to be used as their visual journal throughout this course. A wide variety of concepts, exercises, and methods will be introduced to fill the pages of this book while learning about possible two and three dimensional techniques to be used to create a theme based altered book. This class is designed for the creative thinker who enjoys experimentation with media and materials as well as thinking “outside the box”. The Elements of Art and Principles of Design will be introduced and woven into the pages of the books. All students will be required to do self-evaluations of artwork as part of the process of creating artwork. Prerequisite: None.
