Matamata-based Gudsell Designer Homes began in 2010 after father-and-son building team Peter and Matt Gudsell saw an opportunity in the local market to create employment and focus on high quality homes. “The business was based on us being on the tools, price point and quality,” explains Peter. In the 2013 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition the company won a silver award for the Waikato region in the new homes $450,000-$600,000 category and a gold regional and national reserve award in the new homes $350,000-$450,000 category. Both homes are examples of the company's desire to be involved in the design process early on. “We like to help clients through this process. We prefer it if they come to us with their ideas and we can work as a team with the draftsperson or architect to give advice on cost cutting possibilities and style,” says Peter. “It's a team approach that has been working out well for us.” The gold award-winning home is a 280sqm modern design with plaster covered brick exterior. “There is a strong theme of black and white on both the interior and exterior with open plan living and distinctive features including vaulted ceilings, oversize skirtings and architraves. The silver award winner likewise made good use of a variety of materials including Heirloom Kitchens design and build kitchens to suit your style and space. From low budget “hearty faire” kitchens to top of the range “haute cuisine” kitchens for designer homes, Heirloom Kitchens are all about delivering quality kitchens when you need them. Matt has over 10 years experience in the building industry and is on site making sure the construction process runs smoothly and is up to the teams high standards. Peter brings over 30 years experience to the team in the building and real estate industries. Gudsell Designer Homes specialises in new home construction and also undertakes leaky home repairs, renovations, additions and light commercial work. The company also offers a unique designer range of house plans which can be modified to suit individual needs. The company services the Waikato area from Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu to Morrinsville and surrounding area. Gudsell Designer Homes takes the build from design to completion including interior design and driveways if required. Peter describes the company building philosophy as “old fashioned craftsmanship combined with modern techniques.” Being a Registered Master Builder and Future Proof Building team member all homes come with a 10-year Master Build guarantee. The Gudsells are building a showhome in Matamata designed by Tauranga based award winner Brendon Gordon Architecture. Located in the Stonewood subdivision off Peria Road, the showhome will open around the end of April 2014.
Peter says it will not only incorporate distinctive design features but will be set up as a live house with furniture. “It will seem as if someone is actually living there so people can get a real feel for the home.” Peter plans to keep evolving the company with his son, building on the firm foundations that have been established. “In starting the company we chose to stick
with what we know best – building top quality homes. Now we are established and have lots of enquiries.”
