Success built on honesty, integrity Focusing on commercial construction, Peryer Construction brings over 30 years experience to its client’s projects. Based in Wellington, the company was started by qualified builder Bill Peryer in the early 1980s and has since established a proven track record for not only building physical structures but also building relationships with clients based on honesty and integrity, says company manager Jan Peryer. “We do what we say we’re going to do and if things aren’t right we stand by our brand and we put it right. We have proven performance based on goodwill and honesty,” she says. Being a family owned and operated business, Bill and Jan are proud to have very loyal, long serving employees – some of whom have been with the company for over 20 years. They both acknowledge this loyalty as a significant factor in the success of the business giving greater control over quality of workmanship, management and timing of projects. “Our employees understand our processes, systems and expectations, which has become even more important to us as owners and also our clients with the recent Health and Safety at Work Act and changes to the Health and Safety regulations. “We have a very high level of skill that enables us to undertake a variety of projects,” says Jan. Both Bill and Jan are directly involved in the day-to-day running of their business, meaning their clients always have a direct line to the bosses of the company streamlining processes and resulting in a more personal building experience. Bill has overall responsibility for performance and management, including tendering and contract negotiations. Jan, who has extensive experience in company, credit, office and property management, has day to day responsibility for collating and submitting tenders, contract warranties and Council compliance documentation as well as overseeing compliance of Health and Safety systems and financial reporting for the company.
Peryer Construction undertakes a wide variety of projects including light commercial, industrial, educational and accommodation as well as residential work. Previous projects include design and build commercial developments, new build commercial and industrial facilities, seismic structural strengthening projects, multi-housing accommodation and retirement villages, commercial and retail and government fitouts, extensive alterations and additions to existing domestic residences and new build and refurbishment of educational facilities. Other recent projects completed by the company include a retail show room upgrade in Victoria Street at Alicetown, Lower Hutt and the $2 million seismic strengthening, building extension and refurbishment of the Upper Hutt Health Centre. On the health centre project Jan and Bill says that Peryer Construction worked closely with the client and consultants, planning the work in stages, managing temporary work and staff relocation to ensure that the high demand facilities were able to remain fully operational during the complex and challenging project, which was completed ahead of schedule. “It is our goal to achieve a positive experience and result for our clients, on all our projects,” says Jan. “We value communication, integrity and respect at all levels and quality and workmanship across all facets of the construction phase. “We recognise that goodwill and honesty are paramount to achieving and maintaining a successful business relationship with our clients so that is always our focus on every project.” Peryer Construction is a member of the Registered Master Builders Association of New Zealand and Site Safe. All builders employed by the company are registered Licensed Building Practitioners. The company works throughout the greater Wellington region and as far north as Kapiti Coast.
