Concerning Jim Skelton by Michael Davis 3-29

As I said in another post a minute ago, I have just gotten into my hotel room in Toronto. Obviously, all of the information concerning Jim just got to me as I have been traveling from Lucerne to Zurich, then flying to London, then flying from London to Toronto. I will be home in the morning. After speaking with several people this evening, let me just say this... We wish Jim Skelton the best. He played a key role in the development of the watch shows on SNBC. He is not only a personal friend of mine, but of many of the vendors at SNBC. Things change and we then move forward. None of us from the vendor side of the house have any control over what the hosts do or what SNBC does. That is a matter best left private. The influx of rumors and speculation does NO ONE (including Jim) any good. Everyone would be better off letting those parties directly involved sort out whatever they may need to. Unless you have specific and first hand knowledge of the situation, I would suggest you not post your speculative comments. Again, we are all sad to see Jim go. And, we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. __________________ Michael

No disrespect to any other hosts or vendor reps , but Jim was hands down the most knowledgable , and outright best personality representing shop or any of the brands he sold. If it wasnt for him I may never have started buying watches from shop. He has forgotten more about watches than everyone else I mentioned knows. Again no disrepect to anyone else . Just a big Jim fan ... Best of luck to him ...

I miss ya already bro.

Jim was the best thing to happen to shopnbc and to watch enthusiast. He could sell me a watch faster than anyone , I trusted his judgement and he never let me down . My sundays wont be the same w/o him. Jim : LOVE YA MAN for teaching me all about watches since 2004, I've been right here with ya. I feel a connection to him like a brother , and like a brother he will truly be missed. Thanx Big Mike for your intervention , Am more sure now judging from your thread that something has changed concerning my good friend jim . no more speculating. please keep us posted. Things just aren't gonna be the same now that JS has left Shop. He provided not only his knowledge of timepieces, but alot of other intangibles as well. Ones that no one else on Shop could duplicate, IMO. Even those that didn't care for him, must appreciate that. Sometimes change happens for the better. Let's hope that's the case for Jim. Thanks for the thread Mike. __________________

Well said. No sense speculating. I must say that one of the reasons I record the show is to watch Jim mess around and learn the art of selling. He is very entertaining and that will be missed. He has influenced my decision to make certain purchases but not on all of them. The fact remains remains however that he will be missed by thousands of followers. We will miss Jim Skelton and ACTION JIM. __________________ K!$$ my AXE axmea? View Public Profile Send a private message to axmea? Send email to axmea? Find all posts by axmea? Thanks Michael, well said. "you're a good man, Charlie Brown". Be safe on your final leg home. I'll just say I'm bummed about Jim because it was he that brought me back to watch collecting after years of criticism from peers. Over four years ago, while surfing, I found the Shop, and this guy Jim Skelton. He said then, "we are all just watchgeeks...". I said to myself, wow, that's me. The rest is history. It's just a selfish feeling of being bummed right now. Thanks for this group of "watchgeeks" though...my new family!! hangman52 View Public Profile Send a private message to hangman52 Find all posts by hangman52 Add hangman52 to Your Contacts #35 Today, 12:44 AM

Michael, Even you said that you were at home viewing the watch shows prior to coming to Invicta. I appreciate you trying to calm down the assumptions and theories. This can't possibly be a good day for you guy’s either as vendors because of your personal relationships with Jim. I am one of those people that started purchasing from snbc because I happened across a Jim Skelton watch presentation several years ago. Prior to that, I would not consider buying watches from a home shopping network, period. Jim's enthusiasm, and most of all passion, made one heck of a difference in changing my perception of home shopping networks. I was very disappointed when Jim left watchgeeks... I am flabbergasted that Jim left snbc!!!

Most of us came here to watchgeeks because of Jim Skelton's advertisement and huge endorsement of this forum. That's just the truth man!!! I only wish Jim could have had a chance to say goodbye on the shows that he in many ways revolutionized before pulling the plug.

Mike, thank's for bringing some sanity to this subject. There is no doubt Jim will be missed, I started watching snbc prior to Jim becoming the prominent watch host. Like a lot of us have

stated, Jim took the show to a new level. He will be missed, I thank you, Jim and Bruce for creating this forum. No speculating but with Jim just signing a contract recently, buying a house and moving, buying a new car- SOMETHING seriously went wrong for him to be let go. After a new contract signing I just cant see him taking off. Also he probably has a non compete somewhere to keep him from hawking watches on TV at least. __________________ The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. ...Alexis de Tocqueville after travelling to America 1834 Z4MC View Public Profile Send a private message to Z4MC Find all posts by Z4MC Add Z4MC to Your Contacts #57 Today, 05:40 AM Join Date: May 2010 Posts: 135

Like many of you, Jim hooked me into watch collecting. While I enjoy all of the Shop's watch shows, I always thought Jim's were the best; both for entertainment and informative value. Truly going to miss his shows. __________________

I am sure that his dignity is intact. He's a pretty strong guy who's been through a lot .. It'll be nice to see more of you dude !! ....... This scenario with Jim leaving the Shop ... can and will have a major impact to the Shop NBC and New Collector Community. As stated by some Geeks and New Collectors ... Jim is the reason for them getting the bug. Even interaction between Jim-Mike and other Brand Reps has a big following and makes the shows more enjoyable to watch ... regardless of the product being Aired at that moment in addition to product moving which would not normally sell ... but because people are nesting on the show they say what the heck and pull the trigger. The Shop and the various Brands will have to meet ASAP to really be strategic on how they handle the Loss of Jim and Airings going forward . TV Shopping Channel Watch Collecting is probably at a all time high even in this down economy. In order to spin this around and continue to keep the passion, buying - collecting up ... TV Execs and Brands must move fast .... I have some ideas and I am available to discuss the matters Governor

yep probally got the I wanna see you in my office as he walked into the building. its not a good feeling,I can tell ya.I worked at place that is right down the street from where shopnbc is now,in 1991,one day as people walked into work,my supervisor was at the door telling everyone go to the lunch room, when the bell rang, they(as is the management team) walked in and told us they were laying us all off and the dept of employment person handed us the paperwork to fill out for unemployment..then they told us,we would lose 3 weeks of vacation if we didnt have that on the books they would take it out of last paychecks as they were in bankrupcy and we would lose all our sick time also, I walked out with a 50 dollar check and told oh well and that friday my rent was due, leaving me have to move back down to Iowa. I am sure it wasnt pleasant regardless. as the door at shop closes one will open eventually and he will be the better for it. hootchlid View Public Profile Send a private message to hootchlid Send email to hootchlid Find all posts by hootchlid Add hootchlid to Your Contacts #100 Today, 10:55 AM

I know I'll miss Jim as well. A couple of years ago, I was flipping through the channels late one night and heard a loud laugh. I flipped back to where the laugh came from and because the guy was having was funny and having a good time, I kept watching. That was my first experience with Jim. I've always like watches, but was a closet watch geek. Jim has a way of sharing his knowledge without making you feel like an idiot or that your being talked down to, plus he has a great personality. After watching and learning from Jim a few months, I bought my first watch‌‌ surprise, an Invicta Pro Diver automatic. If it wasn't for Jim, there would be no Invicta's, Android's, Croton's, Stuhrling's or Swiss Legend's in my collection. Best of luck Jim, I'll miss you sharing your knowledge of watches. I owned one watch when I first saw Jim ..... 100 later, some sold/traded and 50 or more in the house, I owe it to Jimmy S .. pure and freakin' simple !! I get much joy from playing w/the collection. As well, " " ... knew how to 'ROCK THE HOUSE' .... This is a skill, a talent, and not just salesmanship !! .. others are good at what they do and have worked hard to get there. I wish them well, but it'll take some doing to find a personality like his ever again on snbc. Tks Jim ...... Mike, Thank you for your classy post!

I am so sorry to hear that Jim has moved on. I've been collecting and trading/selling watches most of my life, and only in the last five months did I join the Shop craze! I have bought at least 20 watches, plus other jewelry and items during this period. Jim is the one mainly responsible for my buying sprees. I'm going to miss him terribly...but I'll keep on buying and collecting. He got me hooked on Invicta!

We all have throughly enjoyed the times you and Jim, and all the other watch show hosts have had with you (and with Jim). We wish Jim all the best in his future endeavors. Please bring us all up to date about Basel, when you return to the show, and thank you from the bottom of ours Hearts!! __________________

I would not be suprised if this situation results in the end of SNBCs dominance in the TV marketing of watches. I've accumulated over 150 watches mostly from SNBC since 2005. I often consulted Jim Skelton and got his advice. To have your guru yanked after 5 1/2 years is a real kick in the teeth. Hopefully we will be seeing more of JS in the future perhaps on another outlet.

He's one of the guy's, that’s all…

I couldn't have said it better myself. __________________

Michael, Thanks for rallying the troops and trying to calm all the speculation. BUT, you can't expect everyone to just act like nothing happened. This is a huge loss for all that enjoyed Jim on ShopNBC, his sense of humor, his great knowledge, and his overall personality. Also, it's human nature to wonder when something happens without warning. Sunday night Jim is on his usual show, saying his next show will be Wednesday, and the next day he is telling us he is gone from ShopNBC. A complete shock and headscratcher. Geeks all around will be wondering and I'm sure we will never know the real story. We will find out where he winds up, but we will never know what happened. And people by nature are curious, especially when things are sudden like this scott99 View Public Profile Send a private message to scott99 Find all posts by scott99 Add scott99 to Your Contacts #116 Today, 01:24 PM

Jim was one of the key people, besides my bro NoTux, that got me interested in watches. He will be missed. Thanks Jim and God Bless. __________________ Gunther Up the Irons, Down the Smirny

No offense to anyone...but the threads are sounding like Jim has passed away or something. He is a great salesman and we all will miss him here on W.G. and now on ShopNBC but I would like to think of our friend as making some positive life changing choices for he and his family. Whatever those may be best of luck Jim and stay in touch! __________________ “Virtus Junxit Mors Non Separabit" (Whom virtue has united, death shall not separate) arbeaner View Public Profile Send a private message to arbeaner Find all posts by arbeaner Add arbeaner to Your Contacts #127 Today, 04:11 PM

I'm gonna miss Jim and Michael together. Michael always has this look like "I can't believe he just said that" on his face while he 's doing his best not to bust a nut laughing. Someone should put together a "Best Of" Jim and Michael clip and post it on this thread. bayside1 View Public Profile Send a private message to bayside1 Find all posts by bayside1 Add bayside1 to Your Contacts #131 Today, 04:52 PM Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Born and raised in NJ.Currently in NOLA Posts: 1,929
