This enhanced NVCI refresher program is a review of a safe-non-harmful behavior support system that aligns with Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). The training covers information related to responding, decision making, and controls. The major focus of the course will be on the prevention of negative behaviors rather than the reaction to negative behaviors by teaching participants about CPI Crisis Development Model, precipitation factors, setting limits, communication and the importance of reestablishing a therapeutic relationship after a crisis. The program also teaches physical intervention strategies (disengagement and holds) to be only used as a last resort--when an individual presents an imminent danger to self or others. All physical interventions taught are designed to be non-harmful, noninvasive, and to maintain an individual's dignity. The philosophy of the program is to provide care, welfare, security and safety for all. Individuals must bring their BLUE CARDS to show proof of certification within the last 24 months.Individuals will receive their new BLUE CARD upon completion of the course.
