Sabb Blab Hi everyone! Welcome to the new-look Bubble for this year – we hope you like it! I trust that you’re all settling into the routine of studying and socialising – if you’re a Fresher joining us this year, we hope you’re having the time of your life! If you’re a returning student living off-campus, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Student Advice Centre if you experience any problems – likewise, this valuable resource is there for ALL our students, completely free of charge. The bottom-line is that if there’s any way we can help you, just ask – it’s what we’re here for!

Ben Sundell SU President president@ warwicksu. com

This fortnight will see the chance to get involved with the Autumn Elections – make sure you have your say in who will be representing you to make sure that you have a great academic and social experience here at University. Speaking of which, make sure you also get yourself a ticket for Skool Dayz before it inevitably sells out!

news in brief Warwick Folk Freshers Ceilidh – Monday Week 3

Warwick Folk Society will be holding their first Ceilidh of the year on Monday 14th October (Week 3). It will take place in the SU Atrium from 7:30pm-10:30pm, with music provided by Folkus Pocus and caller Rhodri Davies. No previous experience is required, and they welcome anybody from any background to come and have a go! It’s fantastic fun and a great way for everybody to see a bit of traditional English/Irish culture in a very friendly and inclusive format.

GUM Clinic – Tuesday Week 3 Our free and confidential GUM Clinic returns to the SU on Tuesday 15th October, giving you the chance to get checked out for STIs (sexually-transmitted infections) in a free and confidential setting. The process is non-invasive and there’s no need to make an appointment – just turn up on the day and you’ll be seen at the earliest opportunity! The clinic will run from 11:30am-5.30pm in Meetings Rooms 4/5 of SUHQ – please note that appointments can last up to 20 minutes, so you’re advised not to arrive too late in the day if you want to be seen!

Second-Hand Bike Sale – returning in November At the time of writing, the Second-Hand Bike Sale is scheduled to return to campus in mid-November. We’ll post more details on the SU website as soon as we have them – make sure you come down to the Piazza during the daytime to grab yourself a bargain!

Warwick Dodge – taster sessions on Friday afternoons Warwick Dodge hold fun sessions every Friday in the Main Hall at the Sports Centre, from 5-6pm. It is a great way to try something new, meet new friends and make great memories - everyone is welcome! Want to see your society event featured in a future issue? Email chris.carter@warwicksu.com with all the details!

2013 The Students’ Union is a democratically-run organisation – all members have a say in how we operate by electing officers to represent your views or by voting in All Student Meetings and Elections. The Autumn Elections period will see the student body select their choice of Postgraduate Officers and Student Councillors. It’s vitally important that you cast your vote as these are the people who will be representing you throughout the coming year on some of the highest forums and democratic bodies in the Students’ Union. There are 11 posts up for grabs in this round of elections – head to www.warwicksu.com/vote to view the full list of candidates and cast your vote! Voting is all conducted online - polls open at 9am on Tuesday 15th October (Week 3) and close at 9pm on Thursday 17th. Following that, make sure you log on to www.warwicksu.com/democracy on Friday 18th October to find out the full list of winners.

It’s your Union – be a part of it!

Living off-campus can present a whole new set of challenges for students. Most critical for residents already living in the area you move into is the part you play in the local community: how you interact with your neighbours, what sort of impression you leave and how you contribute to the general atmosphere of the area.

Love Community is an SU-run programme which offers you the chance to give something back to your local area. Throughout the weekend of 26th-27th October 2013

(Week 4), we will be organising various Social Action projects involving restoration, painting, repairs and enhancement to different areas in Leamington and Kenilworth. These are a great opportunity to contribute positively to the community during your time as a student, as well as giving you a valuable CV boost and helping to improve the image of students in the towns we inhabit during term-time! Head to www.warwicksu.com/lovecommunity for more information about the different projects on offer and to sign up.

Who are you? Adam Dale… the legend. Where do you work? The Marketing Department of the SU (Floor 3, next to the Advice Centre) Come see me if you need help with… Society web-based stuff on the SU site! My favourite film of all-time is… Er… probably the one I watch the most: Critters. “They have primitive weapons! So what? BOOM!” My favourite song of all-time is… Some emo rubbish…. possibly Grand Theft Autumn by Fall Out Boy. If you see me at the bar, buy me… A good White Russian (I had a terrible one in Bristol before) The way to win my heart is… If I knew that, I wouldn’t be alone! (Snivel). When I was a child, I wanted to be… A pilot. Then I realised I was scared of heights. And flying. So I quickly scrapped that idea! My least favourite thing in the entire world is… Cats. I don’t trust cats. They sit there plotting to take over the world.
