CHOOSING YOUR DREAM

SETTING

The journey to your dream wedding begins with one of the most pivotal decisions you’ll make: selecting the perfect venue. This choice not only defines the ambiance of your celebration but also influences every subsequent decision in the planning process.

T

he search for the right venue is guided by various factors, including the geographical location, your budget, and the anticipated guest count. It’s important to note that certain venues, particularly grand estates, may require a minimum number of guests, which could be a constraint for those envisioning a more personal, intimate gathering. Kick off your planning by estimating the number of guests. This will help you narrow down your venue options. It’s also crucial to keep a close eye on your budget; the cost of the venue should not consume more than half of your total wedding budget. When you think you’ve found the perfect place, delve into the specifics of what the venue fee covers and set aside funds for any additional features you might want. If your wedding ceremony and reception are to be held at different locations, consider the logistics involved in moving between the two. The travel considerations affect not only you and your guests but also your vendors, such as the photographer, who might levy additional charges for longer distances. Simplify the day by arranging transportation for guests when there’s a considerable gap between your venues.

With your venue secured, the fun part of personalizing your wedding begins. The choice of venue will naturally steer the direction for catering, décor, transportation, and even the style of your wedding attire, ensuring consistency in your wedding’s theme and aesthetics. To truly get a feel for potential venues, take advantage of open houses or showcases they offer. Visiting in person allows you to envision how your wedding will look and feel, ensuring that the venue aligns with your vision for the day. Moreover, consider the scenic value of your venue for photography. A venue with breathtaking views or beautiful landscapes will serve as a stunning backdrop for your wedding photos, capturing the essence of your special day in images that you’ll treasure forever. In essence, the venue you choose lays the groundwork for the entire wedding experience. Through thoughtful consideration and a clear vision of your ideal celebration, you’ll set the stage for a memorable event that perfectly encapsulates your love and personal flair.

CHURCH WEDDING

CELEBRATING LOVE IN A

CHURCH SETTING Opting for a church wedding presents a uniquely personal and meaningful way to say “I do” without necessarily breaking the bank.

T

he financial aspect of a church wedding encompasses the legal fees and various optional services, allowing you to tailor the ceremony to fit your budget. The basic fee covers essentials such as the officiant, church use, liturgy, certificates, lighting, and administrative costs, rooted in a tradition that supports the church’s ability to offer weddings and other vital services.

which you choose to be presented during the ceremony. For those who have previously entered into a civil union, the church also offers blessings. This ceremony allows couples married civilly, whether within the UK or internationally, to celebrate their union in a church setting. It’s an inclusive way to share your commitment with friends and family who may not have been able to attend the initial ceremony, complete with all the traditional elements you desire.

Optional services can enhance your ceremony, including music by choirs or organists, bell ringing, floral decorations, and additional marriage certificates. A church setting offers more than just a location; it provides a deeply personal and distinctive experience for your ceremony, whether you’re familiar with church traditions or encountering them for the first time.

The vows exchanged in a church wedding are a timeless tradition, echoing the commitment made by countless couples through history. These vows, central to the ceremony, are a declaration of your dedication to each other, framed by the setting of a church. They, along with the exchange of rings, symbolize the perpetual love and care you promise to one another in the presence of your loved ones. These elements, unique to the church wedding, create an indelible mark of your commitment and the life you’re embarking on together.

Your ceremony can be customised to reflect your personal tastes and values, from the selection of hymns and music to the readings, poetry, and the manner in

twelve

VENUES

PERSONALISING YOUR

CEREMONY Civil wedding ceremonies offer couples the opportunity to celebrate their union in a way that’s uniquely tailored to their personal preferences and family traditions, emphasising flexibility and the creation of a distinctive, memorable event.

A

civil ceremony, devoid of religious content, grants couples the liberty to select almost any location for their nuptials, offering a canvas for creativity. These ceremonies are characterised by their brevity and secular nature, allowing for a streamlined process compared to traditional church weddings. Opting for an unconventional venue can lend a remarkable and unforgettable atmosphere to the celebration, making the day truly stand out for the couple and their guests. The variety of venues approved for civil ceremonies in the UK is vast, ranging from majestic castles and stately homes to unique settings like sports clubs, museums, and aquariums. These locations provide the solemnity of a registry office while infusing the ceremony with an engaging, personal backdrop. While registry offices are a straightforward option for civil ceremonies, they may lack the character and charm of alternative venues. Regardless of the setting, certain legal formalities must be observed, such as submitting a Notice

of Intention to Marry and conducting the ceremony within a year to accommodate any legal objections. The allure of a civil ceremony lies in its capacity for customization, allowing each couple to design a ceremony that reflects their individual personalities. From the choice of venue to the details of the ceremony itself, including readings and music, the event can be tailored to suit the couple’s unique story. Vows in a civil ceremony offer perhaps the most profound opportunity for personalization; without the constraints of religious wording, couples are free to express their commitments in deeply meaningful, bespoke ways, whether through original vows, favorite poems, or significant song lyrics. The essence of the civil ceremony is the exchange of vows—those heartfelt promises of love, respect, and fidelity. This moment, unrestricted by tradition, invites couples to communicate their love in the most authentic manner, whether that be through eloquent declarations, cherished verses, or simple, yet profound, pledges of commitment.

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS

THE GREAT

OUTDOORS Structures such as pavilions or huts are in place in many venues across the UK, in which you can carry out the ceremony. There are also places that get special licenses such as treehouses and beach huts, allowing you to achieve your dream of an outdoor wedding.

I

n the UK, you can only marry under a fixed structure with a roof. This could be anything from a veranda to a bandstand, but you cannot legally be married in something like a marquee, however you can have a blessing in a location of your choice and be legally married at a later date. A good reason to have an outdoor wedding, is that is works for all numbers. Whether you want a small and intimate ceremony or a huge party, you are free to do as you wish, depending on your budget. It is also easy to personalise an outdoor space with any theme. A yurt is more robust and stable than a marquee and offers a larger inside area which is suitable for weddings, especially in the months when the weather is uncertain. Some yurts even have interior wood-burning stoves and comfy seating areas, making them perfectly cosy for outdoor weddings when the evenings turn cooler. An outdoor wedding gives you the opportunity to deviate from the formal meal, especially if you are holding the

ceremony in an open barn or a marquee. A buffet-style set up will work perfectly and will help to add to the relaxed feel of a rustic wedding. This could also work out cheaper on the catering side, as wedding breakfasts can be expensive depending on the type of venue you would like. An outdoor wedding is not the best idea in the colder months of the year but you can get around this by providing blankets or having a bonfire, providing that your venue is permitted to do this. Of course, the weather could be a problem, so you could provide umbrellas or sunglasses if you are planning an evening ceremony when the sun is setting. This will make sure that your guests don’t miss anything due to squinting. It is important to inform your guests that most of your wedding ceremony will be outdoors, as it allows them to dress appropriately and be prepared for all weathers. Make sure that your invitation is descriptive so that it is obvious that you have an outdoor theme and advise your friends and family that jackets, wraps and umbrellas may be necessary.

WHAT A

RECEPTION! The essence of your wedding reception should mirror your unique style, encapsulating both your personalities and preferences in every detail.

T

his celebration is your opportunity to shape the atmosphere of your wedding day, whether you envisage an evening of romantic intimacy with your nearest and dearest or a vibrant bash with friends dancing the night away. For many guests, the reception is the pinnacle of the wedding festivities, carrying the expectation of an unforgettable celebration that will be reminisced about for years to come. A key aspect of hosting a successful reception is making a personal connection with each guest. Taking the time to individually welcome and express gratitude to them for sharing in your special day is crucial. Once the party kicks off, mingling with your guests or hitting the dance floor alongside them can make the celebration even more memorable. The dining experience, whether a formal sit-down

dinner or a relaxed buffet, should be accompanied by a carefully planned seating arrangement. Strategically placing guests with shared interests or commonalities can spark engaging conversations and ensure everyone has a delightful time, even if they are meeting for the first time. To elevate the guest experience and ease any hosting stress, consider the inclusion of an open bar. If budget constraints are a concern, there are creative solutions to provide a generous offering without overspending. Options such as selecting a single brand of beer, ale, or house wine, alongside a few signature cocktails, can cater to diverse tastes. Alternatively, offering a complimentary welcome drink, like prosecco or cava, can set the tone while allowing guests the choice to purchase additional or premium beverages. This thoughtful approach ensures that all your guests can enjoy their preferred drinks and contribute to a joyous and inclusive celebration atmosphere.

WEDDING ABROAD

DESTINATION

WEDDING Opting for a destination wedding presents a unique set of considerations beyond the simple allure of a ceremony in a picturesque locale. While the idea of exchanging vows on a distant beach is enticing, the reality involves thorough planning and consideration of various factors.

T

he timing of your wedding is crucial, especially in destinations prone to seasonal weather patterns like monsoon seasons. Additionally, understanding local customs, cuisine, and legal requirements is essential for a seamless experience. Typically, planning for a destination wedding starts about 18 months in advance to ensure all details are addressed and to provide ample notice for guests. The accessibility of the location for guests is a significant factor. Choosing a venue that is reachable via direct, reasonably priced flights, with minimal travel time from the airport, can greatly influence their willingness to attend. Legalities of marrying in a foreign country can be complex. Each destination has its own regulations regarding marriage, and some may require prolonged residency before a legal ceremony can be performed.

Often, couples opt for a legal marriage in their home country followed by a ceremonial blessing at the destination. Hiring a local wedding planner can be a game-changer. An expert who is familiar with the area, fluent in the local language, and experienced in coordinating weddings of your desired style can navigate local nuances and connect with the best vendors. Even with a planner’s assistance, personally visiting potential venues, florists, and caterers is advisable to ensure they align with your vision for the day. Engaging an established, English-speaking planner with a track record of organising weddings in your chosen locale can provide peace of mind and ensure your requirements are met. However, direct involvement in selecting your venue and vendors remains crucial to achieving the wedding of your dreams.

BRIDAL GOWNS

HERE COMES THE

BRIDE

Choosing your wedding dress will be one of the most important decisions that you will ever make and it has to leave you feeling beautiful without breaking the bank.

S

ummer weddings conjure images of sunny skies, soft breezes, and vibrant celebrations. As such, choosing the perfect wedding gown becomes a pivotal part of orchestrating your ideal summer nuptials. The quest for the right dress blends practicality with the magic of discovering a gown that feels as though it was made just for you. Here’s how to navigate the journey toward finding your dream summer wedding dress. CONSIDER THE VENUE AND THEME Your wedding venue and theme play significant roles in the style of dress that will best complement your day. A beach wedding calls for a different aesthetic than a formal garden affair. Lightweight fabrics like chiffon or organza are perfect for outdoor or beach weddings, offering breathability and movement. For more formal venues, you might opt for structured silhouettes and detailed embellishments that align with the sophistication of the setting.

START EARLY AND FACTOR IN ALTERATIONS Finding the perfect wedding dress can take time. Start your search early to avoid rushed decisions or limited selections. Remember to factor in time for alterations, which can ensure your dress fits perfectly on the day. A good rule of thumb is to have your final fitting scheduled a few weeks before the wedding. PRIORITISE YOUR COMFORT AND STYLE Ultimately, the most important aspect of choosing your summer wedding dress is how it makes you feel. Your dress should reflect your personal style, make you feel confident, and allow you to enjoy your special day to the fullest. Trust your instincts and choose a dress that speaks to you.

In-house alteration service

CHOOSE THE RIGHT FABRIC The key to summer comfort is selecting the right fabric. Natural fibres such as silk, cotton, and linen are breathable and lighter, making them ideal for warmer weather. These materials help in keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the ceremony and reception. Additionally, consider the fabric’s flow and how it will look in the natural light of an outdoor setting.

Proud stockists of the designer bridal wear by Mark Lesley and Ronald Joyce, including bridesmaids dresses by Richard Designs.

SELECT A COMFORTABLE STYLE Summer weddings often call for dresses that are not only beautiful but also comfortable. Consider gowns with open backs, sleeveless designs, or short sleeves for added ventilation. A-line dresses are universally flattering and comfortable for long wear, while mermaid or sheath styles offer a more form-fitting option.

Sizes 6-32 We also stock accessories and shoes by The Perfect Bridal Company.

THINK ABOUT COLOR AND DETAIL While traditional white remains a popular choice, summer weddings are an excellent opportunity to explore subtle colors and details. Soft pastels, creamy ivories, or even floral prints can add a unique touch to your summer wedding ensemble. Lace detailing, beading, or embroidery can also complement the season’s light and airy feel. PLAN FOR THE WEATHER Even in summer, weather can be unpredictable. Consider a lightweight shawl or bolero for cooler evenings, especially if your wedding spans the day and night. These accessories can be styled to match your dress and offer practicality without sacrificing elegance.

Come and visit us at 7 West Parade, Lincoln, LN11NL to find your dream wedding gown! VIP appointments also available, serving you a glass of fizz! To book an appointment please telephone 01522 845049, or visit www.prettypanache.co.uk.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE

ELEGANT

& STYLISH As the Mother of the Bride, your role in the wedding is pivotal, and naturally, you’ll want to look your absolute best. Here’s a guide to help you navigate your attire choices and ensure you shine on the big day.

S

electing the perfect color for your outfit is paramount. Steer clear of white or cream to avoid clashing with the bride and consider the colour scheme of the bridesmaids’ dresses and the Mother of the Groom’s outfit. Co-ordination and communication are key, even if it means discreetly checking in to ensure a harmonious look. For those who feel less vibrant colours might wash them out, neutral shades can be beautifully offset with brightly coloured accessories for that essential splash of vibrancy. Sometimes, the perfect dress might not align with the wedding palette; in such cases, let your accessories bridge the gap.

headwear in favour of eye-catching jewellery or a standout corsage. A stylish wrap or coordinating jacket is also advisable for cooler moments. Keep in mind that many mother of the bride outfits are available in limited quantities. If you stumble upon the dress that feels just right, it’s wise not to delay your purchase too long, lest it sells out while you’re deciding. By following these guidelines, you’ll not only embody elegance on your daughter’s special day but also feel comfortable and confident, allowing you to fully enjoy the celebrations.

Comfort is synonymous with confidence. Avoid any attire that restricts movement, pinches, or just doesn’t feel right. This principle extends to footwear. Given the length of time you’ll be on your feet, opt for shoes that offer a blend of style and comfort. Consider bringing a second, more comfortable pair for the evening festivities to maintain your elegance throughout the night. BRIDESMAIDS

PRETTY MAIDS IN A ROW Choosing dresses for your bridesmaids can be as daunting a task as picking out your own wedding gown, especially when your bridal party is sizable. It’s essential for the bridesmaids to feel both comfortable and beautiful, enabling them to offer you the support you need on your big day.

I

f the arrangement is for bridesmaids to purchase their own dresses, or even if you plan to buy them, offering a variety of choices is key to ensuring their happiness and preventing any feelings of discontent. This can be a delicate balance, but allowing them some autonomy over their dress style or hair, while specifying a preferred color or theme, can work wonders. For those embracing the trend of mismatched bridesmaids, this approach encourages them to express their individual styles. Whether it’s eclectic floral patterns for a rustic wedding, soft sorbet hues for a country affair, airy maxi dresses for a boho vibe, vibrant uniform gowns for dramatic flair, or dresses with vintage sleeves for classic elegance, the bridesmaid dresses significantly influence your wedding’s aesthetic. Before getting too carried away, it’s important to consider the financial implications for your bridesmaids, particularly if they are buying their own

dresses. They should feel honored to play a role in your wedding without the burden of excessive costs. Creating a harmonious bridesmaid group is also vital, particularly if they aren’t well-acquainted. Organising a get-together early on can foster camaraderie, making your wedding preparations smoother. Designating a bridesmaid of honor from the start clarifies who can address any issues, relieving you from managing every minor detail. Expressing your gratitude with thoughtful bridesmaid gifts can significantly enhance their experience. Personalised presents not only show your appreciation but also serve as cherished mementos of your special day. By being considerate and thoughtful towards your bridesmaids’ needs and preferences, you not only ensure they look and feel great but also strengthen your bond with them, making for a more joyful and supportive wedding experience.

BRIDAL LINGERIE

ELEVATING

CONFIDENCE Selecting the perfect lingerie to complement your wedding dress is essential for achieving a flawless look on your special day.

T

he choices in bridal undergarments are vast, from traditional garters, a variety of bras and bustiers, to shapewear and stockings, navigating the options can seem daunting. Bridal lingerie encompasses more than just ornate and lavish designs; it plays a pivotal role in enhancing your silhouette and ensuring your dress fits impeccably. Visibility of undergarments, such as panty lines or bra straps, should be meticulously avoided. For brides seeking a confidence boost, shapewear offers a smooth foundation, accentuating your figure beneath the wedding gown. Comfort is paramount when it comes to selecting your wedding day lingerie. Options like fitted corsets, basques, or bras integrated into the dress can offer both comfort and security, preventing any wardrobe malfunctions. The last thing you want is to be adjusting your dress constantly. The style of your dress significantly influences your lingerie choices. It’s crucial to wear the lingerie you plan to don on your wedding day to your dress fittings to ensure a seamless fit. Bring a variety of bras, including strapless options, to gown trials to identify the best lingerie for your chosen dress. Depending on the dress design, different lingerie pieces will enhance your look. A strapless gown pairs well with a push-up bra or a low corset, while a dress with a deep neckline might require a versatile multiway bra to accentuate your figure. Investing time in a professional fitting at a specialist lingerie shop is invaluable, as many women often wear the incorrect bra size. For those opting for a braless look, luxurious stockings or sophisticated underwear can add a touch of elegance. If going braless isn’t your preference, a backless corset or basque might be the ideal solution, offering support without compromising the dress’s design. Ultimately, the right bridal lingerie not only ensures you look stunning but also boosts your confidence, allowing you to feel as beautiful as you look on your wedding day.

BEAUTY

Achieving a radiant complexion and smooth skin is pivotal for feeling and looking your absolute best on your wedding day. These elements are not only crucial for your confidence during the celebration but also ensure your wedding photos capture you at your most beautiful.

T

he stress of wedding planning often manifests physically, leading to undereye circles and dry skin. Utilise targeted solutions like eye roll-ons or colour correctors to mitigate these issues. A quality moisturiser is indispensable for counteracting the effects of late-night planning sessions, while ample sleep in the weeks before the wedding plays a crucial role in revitalising your skin. Regular deep cleansing can also help remove excess oils and debris, leaving your skin bright and refreshed. To avoid any last-minute skin irritation, schedule your eyebrow waxing and shaping at least a week prior to your wedding. Any final tweezing should be done a day before to prevent redness. Additionally, pampering yourself with a hydrating facial, along with a manicure and pedicure, will ensure your nails are in pristine condition, especially for those close-up shots of your rings. When deciding on your wedding makeup, the aim is to enhance your natural beauty rather than transform into someone unrecognisable. Opt for makeup that makes you feel like a polished version of yourself, ensuring you remain comfortable and confident throughout the day. Choose a foundation without SPF to prevent any white cast in flash photography, and if you decide on false lashes, select ones that offer a more natural appearance, avoiding excessive volume or length. By focusing on these beauty preparations, you’ll not only look stunning on your wedding day but also feel authentically yourself, radiating confidence and joy.

MEN’S GROOMING

KEEPING

TRIM Your wedding day is a momentous occasion, marking the beginning of a new chapter in your life.

A

s the groom, you’ll want to look and feel your best as you stand at the altar. Achieving a polished and confident appearance goes beyond just selecting the perfect suit. Here are some top grooming tips to ensure you’re at your best on your big day.

1 Start with Skincare

5 Stay Fresh

A clear and healthy complexion is foundational for looking your best. Begin a skincare routine months before the wedding, if you don’t already have one. This should include cleansing, moisturizing, and using sunscreen daily. Consider a professional facial a few weeks before the wedding for a deep clean but avoid any treatments too close to the day to prevent any potential skin reactions.

Choose a high-quality deodorant or antiperspirant to keep you feeling fresh throughout the day. Select a cologne that you love and that complements the season and setting of your wedding, but apply it sparingly. You want to be remembered for your vows, not your scent.

2 Manage Your Mane Schedule a haircut with a trusted barber about a week before the wedding. This timing allows your hair to settle into the perfect length. Discuss the look you’re aiming for and consider a trial run if you’re thinking of a new style. Don’t forget about facial hair; whether you’re clean-shaven or sporting a beard, make sure it’s neatly trimmed.

3 Nail the Details Don’t overlook your hands and nails; they’ll be in the spotlight, especially during the ring exchange. Get a professional manicure for a clean, polished look, or at the very least, ensure your nails are trimmed and tidy.

6 Final Touches On the morning of the wedding, give yourself plenty of time to shower, shave, and groom. Pay attention to small details like ear and nose hair. Dress in your wedding attire at the last possible moment to avoid any wrinkles or stains, and ensure you have a grooming kit on hand for any last-minute adjustments. 7 Relax and Enjoy Finally, remember to relax. Stress can take a toll on your appearance, so take a moment to breathe and center yourself. Confidence is key; when you feel good, you look good.

4 Perfect Your Smile A bright smile is your best accessory. In the months leading up to the wedding, use a whitening toothpaste or invest in professional teeth whitening. On the day, carry mints or a small mouthwash to ensure fresh breath for that first kiss as a married couple.

MEN’S SUITS

SUITS

YOU SIR! When it comes to choosing your wedding suit, don’t feel bound by tradition. Instead, focus on selecting a suit that flatters your unique figure and complements the theme of your wedding.

H

ere are some top tips to help you find the perfect wedding suit and accessories that will make you look and feel confident on your big day.

CONSIDER YOUR BODY TYPE Your body type should play a significant role in choosing the right suit. Here are some guidelines: • Tall and Slim: If you’re tall and slim, opt for doublebreasted styles and shapes with high shoulders. A long jacket will complement your height, making you look your best. • Muscular Build: For those with a muscular frame, choose a well-fitted jacket that accentuates your shoulders without being too tight. • Shorter Stature: Shorter grooms should go for shorter jackets to avoid looking even shorter in a classic tailed or morning suit. Slim-fitting trousers can elongate your legs, and clean lines in the suit with sharp cuts and thin fabric work well. SELECT THE RIGHT SUIT STYLE The style of your suit can range from classic to contemporary. Consider the following options:

ADD PERSONAL TOUCHES Accessories can elevate your wedding suit. Consider the following: • Cufflinks and Tie Pins: These accessories can make a statement. Many grooms opt for novelty or personalized accessories for themselves and their groomsmen, adding a unique touch to the wedding. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FABRIC The season of your wedding should influence your choice of fabric: • Spring or Summer: Lighter fabrics like linen are ideal for warm weather weddings. Don’t shy away from black suits in the warmer months; they can be paired with a pale shirt and tie combination for a classic look. DON’T FORGET ABOUT FOOTWEAR Your choice of shoes is crucial. Make sure they match your wedding suit, and be sure to polish and shine them for a polished appearance on your big day. By considering your body type, suit style, and the season of your wedding, you can confidently choose a wedding suit that complements your personality and style, ensuring you look your absolute best on your special day.

• Morning Suit: This is the most formal option, consisting of a single-breasted suit with a long tail at the back. It’s perfect for church weddings or formal civil ceremonies. • Classic Everyday Style: Some grooms prefer a classic, everyday style suit, enhanced with a matching waistcoat and cravat. You can differentiate yourself from the best man and ushers by wearing a different colored waistcoat or tie. • Shoulder Fit: Ensure that the shoulders of your suit are fitted to your body. While some prefer a wider shoulder for added comfort, there’s no strict rule.

JEWELLERY

THE BIT OF SPARKLE TO SYMBOLISE STUNNING & BEAUTIFUL

WEDDING JEWELLERY

LOVE

The exchange of wedding rings is a timeless tradition, symbolising love and commitment between two people.

Segal’s Jewellers is a family run business established over 100 years with traditional values in a modern setting.

T

he business was founded in Porter Street, Hull by Jack Segal, a time served watchmaker. On returning from the war in 1947, his son Maurice Segal joined the company and his love of jewellery made the business what it is today.

In 1963 the shop moved to Paragon Arcade in Hull where the business thrived and expanded into three units. In 2019, 100 years after it was first established, the family thought a move to much larger premises was required, and Segal’s moved to its new Hull home in Chariot House opposite Primark in the city centre. Today, the stores are managed by third generation brother and sister, Mat and Jo. Their mother Shirley still very much oversees the business and Segal’s continues to successfully operate as a family run venture, with both partner’s children now becoming firm fixtures behind the counters. Segal’s Jewellers now has shops on both sides of the Humber, with a shop in Freshney Place Shopping Centre in Grimsby and two shops in Hull. The business is thriving, and a high level of customer service is key to its continued success. Segal’s offers a wide range of jewellery for all occasions, including new, preowned and antique jewellery, and Jo told us: “We have an amazing range of diamond, engagement, gents, children and wedding rings, in 9ct, 18ct, platinum and palladium. We also have a wonderful display of diamond jewellery, as well as traditional gold chains, bracelets and pendants. “At Segal’s, we also stock leading brands of pre-owned prestigious watches, including Rolex, Omega and Breitling. The antique selection we have is unique and eye catching. We are very proud of the beautiful jewellery and watches that we have on offer. You can be confident that we have expert knowledge and a vast experience of the jewellery trade. If we haven’t got what you are looking for, then we can find it or make it for you with our bespoke service.” The knowledgeable staff at Segal’s are dedicated to helping couples find the perfect engagement ring or wedding ring, stocking a wide range of styles, with impressive and beautiful precious stones and metals.

T

his circle of precious metal, simple or adorned, represents an unbroken bond, making the selection of the perfect wedding ring both a significant and deeply personal decision. Here’s how to ensure that when you slide that band onto your partner’s finger, it truly reflects the depth of your feelings and the uniqueness of your relationship. Wedding rings come in a vast array of styles, metals, and designs. From classic gold bands to contemporary platinum or titanium rings, and from simple designs to those embellished with diamonds or intricate patterns, the options are nearly limitless. Start your search with a basic understanding of what’s available: Metals: Gold, platinum, silver, titanium, and palladium are popular choices, each with its own properties and aesthetic appeal. Designs: Decide between a plain band or one with embellishments such as engravings, gemstones, or custom design elements. Fit: Comfort is key since the ring will be worn daily. Consider trying on various profiles, from flat to rounded or curved, to find what feels best.

The business stocks a huge range of wedding rings in all sizes, metals and colours. The experts at Segal’s can also use CAD (Computer Aided Design) to design your unique wedding ring just for you. Rings can also be engraved with your personal wording. And finally we provide a repair and alteration service, if your original wedding rings need polishing or altering we can assist with your requirements.

For further information and to view the stunning range of jewellery, please visit Segal’s Jewellers in Hull or Grimsby or visit the website: www.segalsjewellers.co.uk

SET A BUDGET Before falling in love with a ring out of your price range, determine a realistic budget. Remember, the cost can vary widely based on the metal, presence and type of gemstones, and the complexity of the design. Setting a budget upfront can help narrow down your choices to those within your financial comfort zone without compromising on quality or significance. CONSIDER LIFESTYLE AND PERSONAL TASTE The perfect wedding ring should not only be beautiful but also suitable for daily wear. Consider your and your partner’s lifestyle, work, and hobbies when choosing a ring. For instance, someone with a very active lifestyle or who works

with their hands might prefer a more durable metal and a simpler design that won’t easily catch or scratch. Additionally, think about personal style. The ring should resonate with the wearer’s taste, whether it’s minimalist, vintage, or modern. For couples seeking uniformity, matching wedding bands are a beautiful way to symbolize their unity, though it’s not a necessity. What matters most is that each ring reflects the individual’s personality and comfort. Size It Right Sizing is crucial for comfort and security. It’s best to measure your ring size at different times of the day and after doing activities that might cause swelling in the hands to ensure an accurate size. Remember, resizing some styles, especially those with gemstones around the band, can be challenging or even impossible. The Symbolism Beyond the material and design, remember the symbolism of the wedding ring. It’s a tangible expression of your love and commitment. Choosing a ring together or selecting one for each other can be a profoundly intimate aspect of your wedding planning process, one that strengthens your bond. Lifetime Investment Consider your wedding ring as a lifetime investment, not just in financial terms but as a daily reminder of your love and commitment to each other. With thoughtful consideration,

your wedding rings will not only be a perfect symbol of your union but also an heirloom to cherish for generations to come. Finding the perfect wedding ring is a journey of love and commitment. By focusing on what truly matters to you and your partner, you can select rings that not only symbolize your bond but also complement your individual styles and lives together.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Your wedding photographer plays a pivotal role in preserving the precious memories of your special day. They have the power to capture candid moments, intricate details, and the love between you and your partner. Finding the perfect photographer is crucial to ensure that your wedding photos are as unique as you are.

S

electing the right photographer begins with reviewing their portfolio. Dive into their galleries to see if their photography style resonates with your vision. When you arrange a meeting with a potential photographer, come prepared with a list of specific shots you desire. Effective communication is key to ensuring that your photographer understands your expectations.

INVEST IN MEMORIES When budgeting for your wedding, photography is an aspect where cutting corners may not be advisable. Your wedding photos are likely to be the most cherished mementos of your special day. Opting for a cheaper photography package may result in images that fail to convey the magic and uniqueness of your wedding.

A PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY For most photographers, their craft is not just a job; it’s a passion. They are as invested in capturing your special moments as you are in having them. If their portfolio and style align with your desires, it’s a promising sign that they are the right fit for your wedding. Feel free to ask questions and engage with them to create a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere during your shoots.

VENUE VISIT Collaborating with your photographer by arranging a visit to the wedding venue is a wise decision. It allows you both to plan specific shots, understand the best locations for photographs throughout the day, and discuss your preferences. This visit provides an opportunity for your photographer to get to know your personalities better, enabling them to capture your essence in the photos.

BUILDING A CONNECTION A genuine connection with your photographer is vital. Feeling at ease around them is essential to achieve natural and candid wedding photographs. Your wedding day should be about you and your partner, and a skilled photographer can capture your authenticity.

In the end, your wedding photos should tell the story of your love, capturing the genuine moments, emotions, and details that make your day extraordinary. Choosing the right photographer, one who shares your vision and values, is an investment in preserving these memories for a lifetime.

TRANSPORT

MAKING AN

ENTRANCE... Selecting your wedding transport is a pivotal decision that ranks right up there with choosing the perfect venue and photographer. It’s a choice that can add a touch of elegance, style, and personality to your special day.

O

nce your wedding date is set, your priorities should include booking your preferred mode of transport and securing your favorite photographer. These choices are the foundation of crafting an unforgettable wedding experience. When it comes to selecting wedding transport, it’s essential to consider who needs transportation. Typically, the bride, accompanied by her father, the bridesmaids, and sometimes the bride’s mother and flower girls, require transportation. The bride and groom usually travel together to the reception venue, especially if it’s at a different location from the ceremony. This arrangement often means that the father of the bride will accompany the bridesmaids or other members of the wedding party. Transportation can consume a significant portion of your wedding budget, particularly if you opt for classic cars or even a romantic horse and carriage. Reputable companies in this industry tend to have outstanding reputations, offering high-quality service and beautifully adorned vehicles at reasonable rates. Before finalizing any transport arrangements, it’s advisable to personally inspect the vehicles. Online photos

and advertisements can sometimes be misleading, and the last thing you want is to be disappointed by your chosen car or campervan on your wedding day. Ensure that the vehicle accommodates your attire comfortably, especially if you’re wearing a princess-style dress. Wedding transport is an opportunity for couples to showcase their unique style and personalities. Whether you’re fun and quirky or prefer a classic and traditional approach, there’s a perfect option for you. While classic cars like Bentleys and Rolls Royces are timeless choices, don’t be afraid to let your individuality shine through with something more unconventional. For those seeking the “wow factor,” luxury limousines make a grand entrance that your guests won’t soon forget. They add an element of drama to your arrival and provide ample space for larger dresses or bridal parties. Consider eliciting reactions with a fairy-tale horse and carriage, a classic VW Beetle, or even a stylish Ferrari. Your wedding transport should align with your vision for the day, making a statement that reflects your style and personality. By carefully considering your choices and personal preferences, you can ensure a memorable and enchanting entrance to your happily ever after.

STATIONERY

YOU ARE CORDIALLY

INVITED

Your wedding invitations are the first impression your guests will have of your big day, so it’s crucial to make them memorable and reflective of your style.

F

rom setting the tone to ensuring clarity, your wedding stationery serves multiple purposes. Let’s delve into the world of wedding invites and stationery to help you create an ensemble that leaves a lasting impact. SETTING THE TONE WITH STYLE Your wedding invitations convey more than just logistical details; they also hint at the formality and style of your event. Whether your wedding is classic and elegant, casual and relaxed, or glam and modern, the invitation should reflect this. As you select your invitations, be mindful of the event you’re hosting.

CO-ORDINATING YOUR STATIONERY Consider ordering your menus, programs, and thankyou notes alongside your invitations. This approach allows your stationer to create a cohesive look across all your wedding stationery, even if you choose slight design variations for each element. Ordering everything together can be cost-effective and saves you precious time.

10

SPELL IT OUT: Clearly state the date and time of the ceremony to avoid any confusion. Guests should know when and where to be for your special day. INCORPORATE WEDDING COLOURS: Consider your wedding colours and how they can be incorporated into your invitations. A cohesive colour scheme sets the stage for your event’s overall aesthetic. You can extend these colours to other wedding papers like table numbers, seating plans, menus, and ceremony programs. FONT AND LEGIBILITY: Pay attention to text color and background contrast. Dark ink on dark backgrounds or light colors on light backgrounds can be challenging to read. Opt for legible fonts that make it easy for guests to understand the information.

ADDING A PERSONAL TOUCH Don’t forget that your wedding stationery is an opportunity to infuse your personality into your event. You can choose from a variety of fonts, paper types, envelopes, and liners to create invitations that reflect your unique style. While classic choices like ivory, cream, and white with black or gold font are timeless, don’t shy away from adding colorful or metallic elements to brighten them up.

SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS Send out your ‘save-the-date’ cards at least six months before the wedding. While they don’t have to be an exact match for your invitations, ordering everything from the same stationer can streamline the process and potentially save you money. Start researching stationery options about a year before your wedding and aim to order invitations approximately four to five months in advance. This timeline ensures that your invitations are ready to be mailed out six weeks before the wedding.
