WELCOME TO THE CITY OF WAYLAND

“The Home of the Wildcats”

Located in Allegan County, one of Michigan’s gems for inland lakes, the City of Wayland (population 4,435) is seeking the right candidate to serve as our next Finance Director/Deputy City Manager. Our next Finance Director/Deputy City Manager will inherit a solidified leadership team and City Council that strives for excellence. This is a rare opportunity to direct the community’s finances and serve in a key leadership role. The Finance Director/Deputy City Manager will report directly to the City Manager. Over the past six years, the current City Manager has led the community with excellence.

While Wayland is a close-knit community located on the Rabbit River, the bright lights of Grand Rapids are looming just 20 minutes to the north. Grand Rapids offers professional sports, arts & culture, outstanding health care facilities and the John Ball P ark Zoo. Downtown Wayland is vibrant and bustling with activity.

The Wayland Main Street Association and Downtown Development Authority (DDA) work closely together. If you take a stroll downtown you can witness their success. Downtown Wayland offers something for everyone!

The Wayland community holds a deep appreciation for the Wayland Union Schools. Residents, and students not residing in the district, are proud to call themselves Wildcats. The school community boasts strong academics, athletics, band and fine arts.

Wayland is fortunate to offer small town life, great schools, an enjoyable park system, a thriving downtown and proximity to Grand Rapids.

WAYLAND’S PARKS AND TRAILS

“HOME OF THE RABBIT RIVER”

Although the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and professional sports are both within a 30-minute drive from Wayland, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy Wayland’s parks and trails.

Residents and visitors enjoy their time along the Rabbit River Nature Trail. The Trail is located on Elm Street and offers a nearly mile-long trail that is built on a 35acre space. A portion of the trail is paved, with the rest a walkable crushed stone. The park offers a covered pavilion/picnic area, restroom facilities and an opportunity to enjoy a quiet moment along the Rabbit River.

The Wayland City Park is the epicenter of recreational opportunities. The Wayland City Park is home to basketball and tennis courts, two picnic shelters, a gazebo, walking path, playground equipment, drinking fountain and a Splash Pad! Wayland’s Splash Pad is huge draw in the community and features adorable squirting animals and hoops to run under.

While strolling through the shops and restaurants in downtown Wayland, many locals enjoy a stop along the Wayland Mini Park. The picturesque park, located on the northeast corner of Wayland, was built in memory of Harold and Dora Weaver. The park offers benches, picnic tables and a walking path. The flower-filled oasis is the perfect spot to pause and enjoy an ice cream cone.
