Hussein Chalayan Temporal Meditations 2003 Video Still Courtesy of the Artist and Galerist, Istanbul In this film Hussein Chalayan blends past and present through historical migratory routes, which have composed his homeland, Cyprus. He uses genetic anthropology as a key in determining these ethnic movements across space. The garments in the film can be viewed as archaeological talismans, which morph slivers of past and present; ultimately, and perhaps paradoxically, they become frozen fragments of their own archaeological quest.
