REST STOP IN NESTOR FALLS
NESTOR FALLS SITE - UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Nestor Falls site is a place of great enjoyment in our community. Located directly off of Highway 17 and on the shores of Lake of the Woods, it is a great gathering place. Most commonly the site is known as a Ministry of Transportation Rest Area, however the site has a much larger story to tell. You may be surprised to learn that site was once the site of an archaeological dig, or that base of the Falls is a protected fish spawning bed. The site is also an amazing lookout over the lake.

In 2019, as part of our Highway Corridor Redevelopment Strategy, the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls applied for funding to have the site enhanced and to bring its stories to the attention of all who pass through. The funding requests were approved and in 2020 we began the design and collaboration work on the improvements to the site.
This summer you can expect to see a lot of action happening at the Nestor Falls Site as construction crews work to bring all of our planning to life. We are anticipating that visitors to the site will be able to learn more about the site, and fully enjoy all of the new elements starting in October 2021.
NESTOR FALLS SITE REDEVELOPMENT

NORTHERN ONTARIO SPORT FISHING CENTRE FISH TALES
For as long as anyone has known, story-telling has been synonymous with fishing. Many of us have heard the tales of the “one that got away”, or the “lake monster” that took 3 people, 4 hours to land in the boat, or even the “unusually large fish” that magically jumped right back into the water seconds before the picture was taken. These stories always enthrall and delight, even those of us who do not fish. Over the winter of 2020-2021 the Northern Ontario Sport Fishing Centre exhibits were renovated to bring some of the great Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls fishing tales to life.
If you have never been to the Northern Ontario Sport Fishing Centre, or if you have been many times before we encourage you to stop by this summer to discover our new exhibits which explain why sport fishing on Lake of the Woods is so great, to learn about Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls contributions to the boats and bridges that allow us to access the lake, and of course about the fish themselves.

The Northern Ontario Sportfishing Centre is open 7 days a week from mid-May to Thanksgiving. Hours may vary. Visit www.sportfishingcentre.com for more details and information. We respectfully ask visitors to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable space for staff and visitors.
In 2021 we are excited to bring back our Sport Fishing Centre Summer Seminar Series. Our Seminar Series provides an opportunity to dive in deeper and learn more about all things fish and fishing related on Lake of the Woods. Visit www.sportfishingcentre.com to find out dates, times and who will be presenting in 2021.
