Marie-Claire Andrews
HEALTH AND LIFE COACH
FOUNDER
The best ‘life insurance’ going – a healthy life Wendy Mouldey firmly believes that investing in our health is important, now more than ever before. “Its time to get back to the basics of maintaining our health and wellness, as much as possible, take control of our health ourselves and be interested in what we can do to improve the health we have. If we set the intention to expand our circle of knowledgeable people who can help us make informed choices about our health, we can then plan how to optimise and enjoy the remainder of our lives in a healthier and much happier state.” Believing that, Wendy teaches her clients how to create a strong, first line of defence against illness and disease. “If this pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that underlying health issues have sadly made those affected by Covid far more vulnerable when attempting to fight off the virus, and far more susceptible to catching it in the first place” she says. She is finding that after New Zealand’s Level 4 Lockdown due to Covid-19, people are naturally much, much more aware of their health, and many have a different focus on what is important to them in that regard, while others living with pre-existing health conditions are simply feeling far more vulnerable. Thanks to the technology available, Wendy was gratefully able to maintain contact with many of her clients during the lockdown levels and continued to coach them via Zoom, while keeping them supported over
that time. She found that when coming out of lockdown, the factors most important to them all were that Fitness Plus … as a Health & Wellness Centre … is private, personal, and (with the constant threat of a pandemic), is run and maintained by Wendy, so the hygiene and sterilisation standards are second to none. After everyone being in isolation, human connection has also become valued far more than ever before and among her other clients, Wendy now coaches groups once a week who come together for ¾ of an hour to increase their wellness, improve their fitness, and who importantly for overall wellness, just enjoy connecting with each other and having some good healthy fun together. They value their weekly sessions in what they consider to be a ‘safe’ environment and appreciate having access to Wendy’s many different coaching skills while they’re there. According to her clients, their focus on maintaining their health, learning how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and increasing their ability to keep mobile is, to them, so much more than just that. They jokingly say they consider their sessions to be the best form of ‘Life Insurance’ they can possibly invest in now. Not to mention the fact their time is filled with non-stop laughter; “the best medicine ever”. Coworking: Engineering serendipity Setting up Wairarapa’s first co-working space ‘3Mile’ in Carterton, has been fortuitously perfect for Marie-Claire Andrews. The co-working movement – providing ‘an office close to home’ and a more collaborative space where ideas can be shared, such as 3Mile, is taking off in droves around the country and the world. The Covid virus has accelerated this concept but for Marie-Claire and her team, they are well ahead of the game. Set up almost two years ago, Marie-Claire has already got her sights set on ensuring the co-working space is not only full of people needing fast internet and good coffee, but somewhere where ideas are bandied, organisations formed and business owners meet. One of these is a group with the mandate ‘How to KickStart existing businesses?’ Another was a ‘hackathon’ where enterprising people pulled apart problems/issues and discussed them, possibly coming up with a solution. It’s brainstorming at a hands-on level, with a focus on execution says Marie-Claire. “We’re here to inspire entrepreneurship, support fledgling founders and take the edge off the loneliness of running your own company, while learning more about the art of good business”. 3Mile – named after Three Mile Bush, which Carterton sprung from, is located on Carterton’s High Street. The footpath sign pointing inwards ‘Working Alone Sucks’ is enough to make anyone want to stop and come inside. MarieClaire says while a home office can be creatively exhilarating, and the opportunity to work

Marie-Claire’s team of volunteers have unleashed their creativity on the place. It’s a professional, yet homely environment with whitewashed walls, open and airy spaces with an industrial feel, dotted with colour in the comfy couches and art work. There’s three private meeting rooms, 20 desks equipped with screens and internet, meeting tables and a kitchen with a coffee machine worth checking out. Marie-Claire moved to country living, east of Carterton two and a half years ago with husband, Lee. Describing herself as a professional business developer, she has a track record in starting, growing and running her own and other people’s businesses. Her last venture was a software company based in Wellington creating mobile apps, which grew to 30+ staff with teams in the US, Middle East and Australia, and she also started Wellington’s Angel investment network. Her energy and ideas have also resulted in her partnering with the founder of ‘Wairarapa Women in Business’ which boasts 890 members and counting. They meet around Wairarapa, including at 3Mile, once a week. But that’s another story.
