However, Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is offering relief for local families who are struggling with unmanageable debt. Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a free service that operates in partnership with over 150 churches in communities around New Zealand, including Masterton. Local CAP Debt Help Coaches work with professionally-trained case workers to create a unique plan for each client. This includes a budget to prioritise food and housing. CAP takes away the stress of dealing with creditors, by negotiating on behalf of clients and establishing long-term repayment plans. When clients first start with CAP they are often living in fear and anxiety. But in 11 years of operation CAP has helped over 1,500 New Zealanders go debt free.
