TIVOL opened the new Hawthorne Plaza location at 119th and Roe in Overland Park, and welcomed the growing population of Johnson County, Kansas.
1994
TIVOL recovered from a devastating 1977 flood that killed 25 people and caused nearly $100 million in damage to Plaza area properties.

Cathy Tivol’s daughter Brooke Tivol McGrath, passed away suddenly at the age of 28. Hunter joined the TIVOL team and represents the fourth generation at the store.

The third generation Tivol family member, Cathy Tivol, started her career at TIVOL and joined the company’s management team several years later.
1978
During the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, TIVOL staff worked diligently to overcome the obstacles of 2020. During this year, TIVOL also celebrated its 110th anniversary.

After an extensive search, TIVOL found the perfect advertising spokesman to represent the store: Harold Tivol, courtesy of John Muller. That same year, Hunter Tivol McGrath was born.
Amidst the Cold War and rampant flooding in the Kansas City area, TIVOL moved to the beautiful Country Club Plaza location. The flagship store still remains at this wellselected location after three expansions.
