The den of this Westfield, New Jersey, home is elegant yet comfortable enough to accommodate a family of four. Built-in cabinets display books and mementos, and the entire space is awash in natural light filtered through layers of curtains. The basement was re-outfitted as a wine cellar. Rustic barn boards now hold approximately 3,000 bottles.

THINK OF AN ANTIQUE COLLECTOR’S HOME, and you might imagine tiptoeing through sacrosanct rooms. But that’s not what it’s like when you visit the owners of this Westfield, New Jersey, home—a married couple with two daughters and a cockapoo. Instead, they wanted their home to be warm, comfortable and lively. “We’re very casual,” says the wife. “We love to collect antiques, but we also live with them. None of our rooms are off-limits.” After a renovation of their circa-1929 house doubled its size to 6,000 square feet, the couple needed help with finishing touches. Recommendations from friends led them to designer Jennifer Watty of Jennifer Watty Interior Design in Westfield. Her task: to integrate the couple’s existing furnishings and complement those with new purchases. The $150,000 project was completed in about a year. “The way I work is to interpret the clients’ style,” Watty explains. “It’s all about them and their homes—I work with their current pieces and bring in resources from all over the world.” The designer started by adding color to bring balance and continuity to the home. For inspiration, Watty turned to the couple’s collection of antique textiles and rugs. Drawing
