Feast and fiesta

Here’s a quick lesson in history: The fifth of May marks the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. For those looking to commemorate Cinco de Mayo with a fiesta and a margarita, check out some of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Bergen County. Blue Moon Mexican Cafe, locations in Englewood, Woodcliff Lake and Wyckoff—This popular chain puts a spin on traditional Mexican dishes and drinks. A countdown on its website ticks down the days remaining to Cinco de Mayo, when assorted specials are expected to be plentiful. Chapala Grill, 52 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, 201.374.3430—This cozy space serves authentic Mexican dishes, Tex-Mex favorites and fresh fruit margaritas. Cinco De Mayo, 116 Broadway, Hillsdale, 201.722.1172—The quarters might be tight but the burritos and tacos pack big bites of flavors. Jalapenos, 930 Prospect St., Glen Rock, 201.445.5566—It’s always a party in the dining room of this neighborhood favorite, where enchiladas, fajitas and margaritas rule. Leon Mexican Cuisine, 16 Chestnut St., Ridgewood, 201.857.0297—A diverse menu features tacos and quesadillas as well as pan-seared mahi mahi and crispy slow roasted pork.

L’IFESTYLE CHOICE

Feeling good and being healthy shouldn’t always be about losing weight—it’s a lifestyle. That’s the theory behind L’ifestyle Lounge, the new wellness studio presented by Old Tappan’s Laura Cipullo, a nutrition author, yoga teacher, registered dietitian and past president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. The studio offers yoga and mindfulness classes (drop-in and semester-long courses are available) as well as nutritional counseling with registered dietitians. In addition, the studio will host special events such as yoga camp and Lunch ‘n Learn programs with Cipullo and nutritionists. “My New Year’s resolution to get healthy already went down the drain,” admits Sabrina Martin, 35, of Norwood. “A series of yoga classes here would get me back on track.” L’ifestyle Lounge, 308 Harrington Ave., Closter, lauracipullo.com

Mary Ann Dziurzynski of Lyndhurst and her friend Loretta (last name withheld) recently visited Italy for a 17-day tour of the Tuscan countryside (pictured), Florence, Rome, Venice and other towns and villages. “The historical sites were incredible and to be a part of this history was fascinating.”

Celebrity seats Talk about product placement. Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams are burnishing their image as a first-rate furniture company by providing furnishings for the sets of a major network drama. Appearing on “The Good Fight,” a spin-off of CBS’ award-winning hit drama “The Good Wife,” are Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams chairs—specifically its Duke chairs in silver leather in the series’ new law offices and its Major loveseat in the office of Diane Lockhart, portrayed by Christine Baranski. The company and CBS had previously created a licensed furniture collection—the first between a furniture maker and a major television network. This enabled the company to provide furniture and accessories during all nine seasons of “The Good Wife.” The company is continuing that partnership, working with CBS’ set decorator Beth Kushnick. The show, which premiered on CBS on Feb. 19, is available on CBS All Access.
