Car Breakfasts The Nelson Petrol Head breakfast is soon to see its fifth edition this April, combining a delicious breakfast buffet with classic cars of all shapes and sizes. The New Zealand Petrolhead magazine is a free publication that comes out every month for car enthusiasts and they have started a trend in the North Island that sees like minded people get together on the first Sunday of every month for a breakfast and the opportunity to get their pride and joy out of the garage. The initiative has continued to grow in the North Island until organisers came looking for a suitable venue to host a breakfast in Nelson. Phil Hazeldine, owner of Phil’s Place at Club Waimea, put his hand up and suggested the club as the perfect spot. Although the breakfast has only seen four meetings, it’s already had a fantastic response from car owners locally and around the country. Out of town car owners who follow
the magazine simply need to check its pages to find the nearest meeting wherever they are in the country and when they arrive at Club Waimea, Phil will be serving up a $20 buffet breakfast with special prices for kids. At one stage the breakfast saw around 70 cars parked up while Phil and his team have catered to around 90 breakfasts. “For me it’s like a dream to look out the [kitchen] window and look at all these nice cars,” says Phil. Whether you own a hot rod, a Rolls Royce or a Mini, everything is welcome, the only requirement is that they are not of Japanese make. Even if you don’t have a car but want to admire some stunning vehicles, Phil welcomes you to enjoy breakfast while you chat with fellow car lovers. Phil’s Place is open for breakfast from 8:30am until 10:30am, with the Nelson Petrolhead Breakfast on rain, hail or shine.
