Oahu is renowned for being a tourist haven with amazing vantage locations, fantastic white sand beaches, vibrant culture, terrific surf, and rare fauna. Often known as "the Gathering Place," Oahu is where Honolulu, the state capital of Hawaii and former seat of the Hawaiian Kingdom, is located.

◦Downtown Honolulu is teeming with landmarks and monuments that illustrate Hawaii's history and culture. This area is also home to Pearl Harbor, a famous naval outpost that welcomes over a million tourists annually. There is also a lot to explore and do in Oahu North Shore, one of the top tourist sites in the world, for both tourists and locals. One of the must-see destinations in Oahu is the Diamond Head or more commonly known as the Amelia Earheart Lookout.

Amelia Earhart – the First Person to Fly Solo From Hawaii to the Mainland

Amelia Earhart's flight from Hawaii to the Mainland in 1935 broke several records. It was the first time someone flew from the islands to the Mainland. She was also the first person to use a two-way radio aboard a nonmilitary aircraft.

The plane that Earhart flew was the first airplane with a female pilot. Earhart left Newfoundland, Canada, at 7:00 p.m. and landed in Ireland

13 hours later near Londonderry, Ireland. Her flight set many other records, and she championed the advancement of women in aviation.

A bronze plaque commemorating the aviator's life stands at the Kuilei Beach Cliffs on Oahu. This plaque commemorates the woman who made the world's first solo flight from California to Hawai'i in 1935. The flight, which took 19 hours, made Earhart the first person to fly from the continental United States to Hawaii.

The Byodo-In Temple is one of the oldest buildings in the Hawaiian Islands. Founded in 1903 in honor of Japanese immigrants who settled in Hawaii, it is located in the Kahaluu Valley. It overlooks the sea where the aviator died.

This overlook gives us an excellent opportunity to take images of the south-eastern coastline of Oahu, with significant sightings as far as Hanauma bay and Maui on a clear day. It is on the eastern side of Waikiki's iconic Diamond Head Volcano. The area is better known as Amelia Earhart Lookout since that is where onlookers congregated to watch Earhart fly for the first time alone, from Hawaii to North America.
