The works in this book began with a borrowed set of Faber-Castell color pencils during the early months of 2021. I had grown used to reading a book each day, taking notes, in the sunlit entrance lobby of my high rise residence building in Dubai. I’d grown used to socializing with my neighbors and their friendly pets passing through the space.
One day, I offered to draw my neighbor’s Chihuahua for her out of this childlike urge to scribble. The doodle turned serious and quite promisingly ended up looking like a work of art. I was treated to delicious Mexican dinner later in exchange for the gift, it got me thinking about a version in color.
My detailed workmanship caught the attention of many passers by, and my aversion to socials and refusal to advertise my identity, self and my work online, caught on agreeably with a large portion of pet parents, who loved the added benefit of privacy for their fur children's photos. It brought back the old school “wire-less” times, where fame and recognition mattered less than honoring and respecting the presence of the life in front of us on paper.

Fast forward, I got back my childhood mojo of making oil paintings, this time with portable pencils! I would simply head over to a coffee shop with my sketchbook and start drawing!

My work fluctuates along the lines of contemporary realism and surrealism. Drawing is a spiritual process, less attention is paid on the actual details of the body but more on the structure of the soul. This isn’t an age where we have to rely on hyperreal art for visual documentation. The essence of truth comes out when allowing your hand to work its way — misbehave, rendering a hidden life with a soulful impression of the subject. We are more than photo-appareils, we’re human.
A detailed context maybe charged extra, but its importance to ground a narrative is justi fi ed. So boldly dream up ideas, I accept the challenge to render them true.

At each stage, I request the client to provide me a clear picture of their pet with fur details visible.
Each drawing’s context is then creatively composed on photoshop with reference scenes / props to detail onto paper.
