CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 2005 Margaux. 1er Cru Classé scuffed label.

TENUTA DELL`ORNELLAIA BOLGHERI SUPERIORE ORNELLAIA 2001 (1) Tuscany. scuffed label

ANTINORI SOLAIA TOSCANA IGT 2000 (1) Tuscany.

The first-growth 2005 Château Margaux (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot), a lavish fragrance of blackcurrants, velvety new saddle leather, spring flowers and spice soars from the glass. The wood is already totally concealed beneath the cascade of fruit in this medium to full-bodied, pure and majestic wine. This concentrated, dense, but nevertheless strikingly elegant, multi-layered wine has a finish of 45+ seconds. It builds incrementally to a crescendo and finale. This is a stunner that can be approached already, but promises to be be"er in another 5-10 years and last at least 25 or more years. WS 97 WA 98+ 1 bt.

287 CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2005 Pauillac. 1er Cru Classé scuffed label. There are layers and layers of black fruit intermingling with graphite and black pepper, and it wisely reins everything in on the finish that is more classic in style and in keeping with the vintage. If you are fortunate enough to have this wine in your cellar, even though those tannins are starting to be abraded by time, afford it another five or six years. Tasted August 2016. The 2001 Ornellaia is easily the finest in the history of the estate, warm and spicy on the nose with superbly focused plum and black currant fruit, much complexity and elegance in its concentrated and supple body, and a velvety, enveloping close. It will easily drink well for another two decades. Drink: 2006-2026 April 2006 WA 96

The 2003 Solaia (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc) reveals the essence of blackberry jam, licorice, cassis, tar and minerals in a super-ripe, heady expression of the vintage. Richly sumptuous on the palate, this beautiful, expansive Solaia offers terrific length as well as stunning balance with plenty of style. It is sure to deliver much gratification over the next decade or so. WS 95 WA 93 ANTINORI SOLAIA TOSCANA IGT 2004 (1) Tuscany. scraped label

ANTINORI SOLAIA TOSCANA IGT 2003 (1) Tuscany.

I am happy to see this holding on so well a#er not tasting it for years. It was always a richer and so#er Sassicaia due to the hot growing season. I drank this in Cannes, France, yesterday with some friends and it now shows a so# and delicious character with dried fruits, spice and mushroom and hints of herbs. Fullbodied, silky and velvety. Round and clean. Drink or hold. But wonderful and sassy now. June 2016 jamessuckling.com WA 93 JS 93

CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE LAS CASES 2000 Saint-Julien. 2ième Cru Classé u. 2 x bn. 2 x scraped labels. per lot $700 - $900

The 2001 Solaia, far superior to the overrated 1997 (to which I also prefer the 1999 and 1994) is a classic example of central Tuscan Cabernet at its best, ruby-purple in color, warm and explosive in its expression of black currant fruit, tobacco, tar, and graphite, superbly concentrated and dense on the palate but balanced and shapely at the same time and with a noble austerity and grip on the finish which resembles the best of Bordeaux. The wine is a sure bet for another two decades of superb drinking. April 2006 WS 93 WA 96

The 2004 Solaia is breathtaking, as it so o#en is. Soaring aromatics lead to a sweet, layered expression of dark fruit. The wine possesses super clarity and precision with a gorgeous inner tension that carries all the way through to the long finish. The tannins remain incredibly finessed and silky. This is a more restrained, elegant style than the full-thro"le 2001. 2004 is the first vintage in which the component wines were aged separately, rather than together, as had been the custom in previous vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. WS 96 WA 96
