DOMAINE JEAN-LOUIS CHAVE HERMITAGE 1999 (1) Rhône. scuffed label

Everything is here, including a dense ruby/purple color, and subtle but impressive notes of damp earth, roasted meats, herbs, spice box, pepper, and black fruits. Tannic, fullbodied, and youthful, it is capable of lasting another 25-30 years. June 2009 WA 94+ D'ARENBERG THE DEAD ARM SHIRAZ 2004 (2) McLaren Vale, Australia. 1 x scuffed label The renowned 2004 Shiraz The Dead Arm, fashioned from ancient head-pruned vines, is stunning. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a glorious perfume of creosote/melted road tar, blackberry and cassis liqueur, pepper, and spice. This deep, rich, full-bodied, tannic Shiraz should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and will last for two decades or more. It is the finest Dead Arm since the 2001. WA 95+ D'ARENBERG THE DEAD ARM SHIRAZ 2005 (6) McLaren Vale, Australia. 1 x scraped label. 1 x scuffed label D’Arenberg’s most famous wine is its flagship, The Dead Arm Shiraz. The 2005 The Dead Arm Shiraz is sourced from ancient head-pruned vines. It was aged for 22 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. It is opaque purple/black with an expansive perfume of toast, smoke, spice box, mineral, pencil lead, tar, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied, opulent, and superconcentrated, this structured, lengthy wine will benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring and drink well through 2025. 354 CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 1993 Pauillac. 1er Cru Classé 1 bt.

per lot $500 - $700

Just beginning to come around and strut its enormous potential, this wine at age 15 has been evolving like a glacier. The wine has an inky, opaque, plum/purple color and a stunningly rich nose of mulberries, bramble berries, blackberries, licorice and incense as well as touches of toast and graphite. Fabulously concentrated and full-bodied, with a multidimensional mouthfeel, this profound Pavie is in mid-adolescence. It should evolve and continue to drink well for at least another 30-40 years. This is clearly the first compelling effort made by the Perse family. August 2015 Drink: 2015-2055 WA 100 CHÂTEAU SMITH-HAUT-LAFITTE 2005 (2) Pessac-Léognan. Grand Cru Classé This sensational, opaque blue/purple-colored wine from Smith Haut Lafi"e has a gorgeous floral nose with notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis that jump from the glass of this inky, very dense, yet strikingly pure wine. Light on its feet despite its stunning concentration and multi-layered mouthfeel, this wine has fabulous intensity, richness and length. Quite impressive, and still incredibly youthful, this is a superstar of the vintage, and capable of lasting another 25-30 years. June 2015 Drink: 2015-2045 WA 98 3 bts. per lot $1,000 - $1,200

More in the style of the ’01, the 1999 Hermitage is a serious effort that gives up a mineraldrenched profile of red and blackcurrants, beef blood, iron and dried flowers. More forward on the nose than the palate, with a tight, yet seamless texture that carries ample concentration and length, with bright acidity, it should continue to shine for another decade. August 2014 WA 94 PIERRE GONON SAINT-JOSEPH 2011 (1 mag.) Rhône. Similar to the sexy, open-knit and ready to go 2012, the 2011 St Joseph shows the sunny nature of the vintage with its awesome perfume of sweet black raspberries, incense, dried violets and wild herbs. Layered, ripe, medium to fullbodied and downright seamless, it's drinking brilliantly today but will keep for another decade. December 2016 WA 94 1 bt. & 1 mag.

359 DOMAINE JEAN-LOUIS CHAVE L'HERMITAGE 2015 Rhône. The 2015 Hermitage is in bo"le and it's a profound, long-lived wine, although the 2017 may perhaps surpass it in terms of pure pleasure. The 2015 is a bit meaty and cedary up front, backed by a mix of berry fruit and spice variations. But what stands out is the wine's immaculate structure and balance. It's firm and tannic without being hard or unyielding, finishing with fold a#er fold of velvety richness. While the impatient can certainly derive some pleasure from it even now, I'd opt for cellaring it a decade or more. October 2018 Drink: 2028 -2045 WA 97

DOMAINE PHILIPPE CHARLOPIN-PARIZOT BONNES-MARES 2009 (2) Côte de Nuits. scuffed label The 2009 Bonnes Mares is sweet, supple and inviting. It is a fairly juicy, accessible Bonnes Mares despite coming from the terres blanches portion of the vineyard where the wines are typically firmer. Minerals, mint and sweet spices add to the sweeping finish in this beautifully delineated Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. WA (91-93) 4 bts. per lot $1,200 - $1,400
