Hollywood Q&A

By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: Is there any word on what Jamie and Adam will be doing after “MythBusters” is over? A: “MythBusters” hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage both have projects on the go, but it seems like the most important thing for both of them is that they won’t be doing them together. Once it became public that “MythBusters” would be ending after 14 seasons on Discovery, the two began sounding off about how they really feel about each other. “If I had one word to describe how I feel at never having to work with co-host Adam Savage again, it’d be relief,” Hyneman told News Corp Australia in December. “Jamie and I don’t get along very well,” Savage told Business Insider magazine. “That’s not a secret we’ve held.” But, of course, it was a secret to most fans, who just enjoyed their equally constructive and destructive on-screen antics. Those antics have mostly moved off-screen now that the show’s done. Savage continues to run his memorabilia and replica shop in San Francisco, while Hyneman continues to run M5 Industries. M5 served as the “MythBusters” headquarters, of course, but he’s continuing to operate it as a non-entertainment business. “I am mainly doing R&D projects now, and will be quite active with them for some time to come,” Hyneman says on the company’s official website. However, Savage, for one, hasn’t totally abandoned television. He recently announced that he’ll serve as a guest judge in the second season of “BattleBots,” the ABC game show that pits robots against each other in what the show itself describes as “the

awesome spectacle of roboton-robot, metal-munching mayhem” (that is to say, the robots fight). Once upon a time there was talk of the pair working together on a new series for CBS, a drama loosely based on their lives as special effects artists, but in which they are recruited by the CIA (which is the fictional part — as far as we know, at least). However, nothing’s been said about it for months, so the project is likely dead. Q: What ever happened to the guy who played TC in “Magnum, P.I.”? A: Roger E. Mosley never quite caught as a screen star. That said, he’s had a surprisingly long career as a bit player, starting in 1971 with an uncredited role in the mystery series “Longstreet” and continuing long after he was cast as Theodore “TC” Calvin in “Magnum, P.I.” in 1980. The TC role proved to be by far his biggest — he appeared in every episode of the show’s eight-season run. He’s kept at it since the show left the air in 1988, but he’s never found a role nearly as good, or as permanent. His biggest roles were on TV, such as a full season of the syndicated sitcom “Rude Awakening” from 1999 to 2000 and a 10-episode run in the early-’90s sitcom “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper” (he played Coach Ricketts in the show’s first season). His most recent gig was in 2010, when he appeared in the first eight episodes of the popular web series “FCU: Fact Checkers Unit.” (Though “web series” may suggest a lack of prestige, the show featured some notable other guest stars, including “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek and “NCIS” star Pauley Perette.)
