her age, that she was just sitting at home behind her geranium plants! A few years ago I started a project One Minute Portraits and I thought that Leny would be a nice subject. When I visited her I discovered that she was a lot more interesting than I thought! So full of life and living it too! I started with a One Minute film and ended with a 40 minute film about her inspiring character and her love life. Your sophisticated time structure no doubt owes something to Chantal Akerman, how did you develop the script of Over the Rainbow? Thank You! Chantal Akerman has always inspired me in my photography and film. I think she also has a

photographic approach in her films. She takes time and lets the audience really look at an image. The protagonists often have a great mise en scene with only one camera angle. In terms of developing the script, that sort of went on the go. I started filming without any budget. I couldn’t wait to write a whole script and apply for funding because of her age and health. I did wanted to focus on the romance she had. And because that happened in the past and because it was the most important memory of her life I had to find a way to weave past and present. I like to look at human behavior and body language so I avoided an interview setting. Quite early in the process I discovered that Leny always had a journal. I used that
