URBAN DESIGN AND PLANNING


The Study for Development of New Smart City in Chacheongsao Province Chacheongsao, THAILAND.

Based on Thai Government policy, Thailand 4.0, one aim is try to solve the middle income trap problem that Thailand has face and stuck with for years. By promote and support the use of innovation, internet, and digital technology, the government expecting to boost up over all GDP and improve people quality of live. Chacheongsao, one of three provinces in EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) is planned to taking role as a “Bed room Community” of Bangkok, Chonburi (EECd), and Rayong (EECi). High speed train will link between Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Rayong new CBD in less than hour and a half. First station at Chacheongsao will have high potential location for Transit Oriented Development Project. New Development will take direct effect on existing environment and people way of living. AXL Design team includes, Planners, Urban Designers, and Landscape Architects start to investigate in all aspects and propose ideas of “Hybrid Smart City” as a solution in order to benefit old and new in sustainable outcome.

BANGKOK SABAI WALK Design Competition Bangkok, THAILAND. Siam Square is vibrant urban space, a center for various types of Shopping, Entertainments, and Education activities. Siam Square draws more than 300,000 students, visitors, shoppers, and tourist daily. On the other hand, it’s also creates problems such as traffic congestion, crowded, peoples have difficulty to walk on side walk due to space is densely occupied by street vendors and many obstacles, visual pollutions, pollution from noise, dust & smoke, and crime. Bangkok Sabai Walk Project was initiated by 4 organizations, Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, Chulalongkorn University, BMA, and Quiet Bangkok Group intended to improve the overall quality of sidewalk in Bangkok especially for the area around Mass transit station. BTS Siam Square was selected as a prototype site due to its complexity and is a major mass transit hub for downtown Bangkok.

To efficiently solve complex issues, all participant teams agreed to reorganize and restructure the sidewalk from scratch. The sidewalk will be restructuring to give priority to pedestrian and provide them comfort and safety. Street vendors will be prohibited on side walk, all utilities and elements will be re-organized. Designer team start to thoroughly investigate the site to clearly understand all aspect such as type of activities, directions & connections, existing utilities, safety, and its physical character. The space is planned in to two major longitudinal zone, Pedestrian Zone and Amenity zone. Pedestrian zone will take area from face of building at a minimum dimension of 2.70 meter, and Amenity Zone will continue from pedestrian edge to face of curb. An idea “Green Attack” is introduced as a tool to help reshape space. Planter for trees and shrubs will provide shade, absorb pollutions from street, and create a visually green backdrop along sidewalk for Bangkok harsh environment. Pavement selection, seating, lighting, and possibility to reuse of rain water, is also suggested as guidelines to improve accessibility, comfort ability, and environmental friendly of the site. The planning and design guidelines will established the new dimension for public sidewalk and provide equal opportunity for everyone to travelling freely and safely on Bangkok sidewalk.








Standard and Design Guidelines for landscape Identity Improvement, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus Nakhon Pathom, THAILAND. Mahidol Salaya Campus is situated on 520 acres of natural beauty landscape. The Land was given by H.M.K. Bhumibol Adulyadej to University to expand their service in education and research in the area. It’s also intended to be a cultural zone for learning benefit of society and the Salaya Community. The initial development of Salaya campus was done according to the Master Plan, however, the increasing needs and the inappropriate timing for the building and the budget create discontinuity between each development physically and functionally. Mahidol’s identity, “A Promised Place to Live and Learn with Nature”, is also unclear and loss. The project idea is try to find out that unique character through the research and design process in order to strengthen its identity and restore the continuity throughout the campus. The project was study in four major areas includes:1. Landscape Master Plan and Landscape Elements. This area includes studying campus symbolic space, Street function and hierarchy, Entry and Accessibility, and street furniture’s. 2. Open Space Master Plan, linkages and continuity. 3. Circulation System study, includes cars, trams, buses, bicycle, pedestrian walk, covered walkway. 4. Landscape Lighting. The product delivered in form of Design Standard and Guidelines book for future implementation and design packages for campus selected symbolic spaces. Master Plan for the Designated Pattaya City and Related Area Cholburi, THAILAND.

Pattaya is a long well-known world destination for tourist. It’s famous for beautiful beach, a great place to enjoy swimming and water activities. It’s also rich in culture and full of natural attractions including the place for both day and night entertainment. The rapid growth and constantly change of the world makes Pattaya to adapt in order to fit in with new environment in both positive and negative aspects. Positive side is always create job and major revenue and boost up economic for the country, on the other hand, it’s also creates various type of social and environmental problems such as traffic, life safety, crime, pollution, waste and garbage. Tourism business, nowadays, is in a high competition among many countries as it’s the major source of incomes. Many countries strategically plan to offer all kinds of offers to attract tourists to their destinations, for instance, in Singapore, The Singapore Resort City which recently launched on Feb. 14, 2010. In order to maintain the world famous tourist destination, Pattaya has to be improved in various aspects including searching for new tourist attractions and adventures. Major problems such as life safety, environmental, fair services need to be addressed and solved immediately and effectively. Thai Government is well aware of the situation in Pattaya. Therefore, Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), together with the local authorities are assigned to make Pattaya the special area set to develop sustainably to be “The World Class Greenovative Tourism City”.

The Master Plan for the intermediate and for Pattaya 2030 is also being prepared. Consultant team is consistently working closely with local authority to search for their unique potential and come up with the sustainable ideas to develop the project that suit with their future needs.

BEACO : THE HIGH HABITAT Pattaya City, THAILAND.

The objective of this design concept is seascape and whale that combine with the perfect harmony of nature and simplicity. The infinity pool is the most attraction and comfortable living area for this project. We provided multipurpose area, pools, mini bar and family area. All residents can be join in this area for all activities. Furthermore, we can see Pattaya Beach from the pool’s view point.
