“Black Diamonds Football – Tradition Abounds” There’s no denying the fact the most popular topic of discussion in Sallisaw is what’s going on with Black Diamonds football. Who remembers the final score of the state championship victories in 1980 and 1981? The first gold ball was a 33-22 win over Lindsay and the back-to-back crown was a 21-14 win over Newcastle. Players and coaches, past and present, as well as every decade of alumni wear their pride for lifetime when it comes to cheering for the Black and Orange. So are the emotions when exploring the subject…what players should be named to the All-Time Black Diamonds football team. There’s no shortage of probable candidates as well as numerous athletes that could be chosen first team at multiple positions including players that once wore the black and orange that continued to prove their talents on the college level winning national championships before playing on Sundays in the National Football League. Let the coffee shop discussions and social media questions begin as VYPE releases its Sallisaw Black Diamonds All-Time football team.
