MADISON POSTIER – PIONEER Pioneer guard Madison Postier averaged 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.5 steals a game last season. The junior is one of the best defenders in Class 2A and can create her own shot with the ball.

6

JADEN SEVERIN – TIMBERLAKE Severin returns for Timberlake this season after averaging 10.2 points and 5.0 rebounds a game last year. The forward will lead Timberlake into the season with a starting lineup of all juniors. DARIAN BIRDSHEAD – GEARY Darian Birdshead enters his junior year after averaging 8.0 points and

6.0 rebounds per game. Coach Chase Evans said he expects Birdshead to have a big season. JAY GASPER – WATONGA An all new starting lineup for head coach Ty Hussey means someone will need to step up as a leader. Look for that person to be senior point guard Jay Gasper. He averaged 6.0 points and 2.0 assists in 201617. GARRETT KNOWLES – ARNETT With Garrett Knowles leading the way, Arnett is looking to put some W’s on the board this season. The 6-foot-3 junior forward will be the go-to player in the offense.

JENNI BEEBE – GARBER Beebe is driven to be the best and this season she’s looking to increase her numbers from a year ago. Beebe averaged 9.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.9 assists per game. BRENNLEY CLOYD – WOODWARD The Lady Boomers have plenty of shooters on the team, but Cloyd brings more than just 6.7 points per game, she brings nearly six

rebounds and two blocks. Big numbers for the power forward.

LANE SCARBOROUGH – ALVA The senior power forward shot 52.1% from the field hitting 33% of his three’s. He averaged 4.9 points a game and coach Shane Feely said he can really shoot the ball and is respected by his teammates and coaches. GRAYSON WALLACE – GUYMON One half of the twin towers at Guymon, Wallace plays forward with Payton Bayless at center. The 6-foot-6 pair of post players will be a formidable matchup for anyone looking to score in the paint.

ENID PLAINSMEN/PACERS BOYS Paul Duncan 16-17 Record: 4-19

Head coach Paul Duncan returns one starter from last years team, which will give opportunities to other players to step up and take on starter roles for the Plainsmen. “We are an inexperienced group that will get better as the season progresses,” said coach Duncan. Jerra Williams (5-9, Sr.) and Carlos Mennefield (5-9, Jr.) will start at guard giving coach Duncan two athletic guards with good defense on the other end of the court. Cyson Mathis (6-3, So.) and Carter Owens (6-3, So.) appear to be the forwards Enid is going to field. With size and length the Plainsmen will look to use their big guys to dominate the boards and grab those important offensive rebounds. Darrin Ryan (5-9, So.) is another guard coach Duncan will lean on for quality minutes this season. Matt Clark (5-8, Jr.) and Damien Rieman (6-0, So.) are two players that continue to develop and will push for playing time. Other players to watch include Mason Skrimager (5-11, Jr.), Telin Phillips (5-9, So.), Baron Winter (6-

Class 6A

3, So.) and Jadon Dimarucut (5-7, So.). Class 6A is tough, but the Plainsmen can win their share of the games on the schedule if they can stay healthy and get production off the bench when the starters are out.

GIRLS Enid Pacers Gerrett Spears 16-17 Record: 9-16 With two returning starters to the lineup this season, the Pacers are looking for individuals ready to take on the role of starter and give head coach Gerrett Spears five players that can compete in Class 6A. Spears enters his first season for the Pacers with assistant coaches Natasha Flynn and Christie Buckner. Returning to the floor this season for her final year is Izzy Plunkett (5-7). The senior will play the 2/3 giving coach Spears a scoring threat and someone that can run the floor. Last season Plunkett averaged 11 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game. Fellow returner Ashley Handing (5-8, Jr.) is capable of running the offense from her guard position giving coach Spears some experience at the point. Handing averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per contest a year ago. Look for Tia Jackson (5-10, Sr.) to play the four giving the Pacers a presence in the paint and someone that can battle for those loose balls. Cayti Moeller (5-7, Jr.) joins Handing at guard which allows coach Spears to interchange the pair between the one and the two. Neisha Fuston (5-11, So.) rounds out the starting five at the post. Fuston is only a sophomore but is showing a lot of promise and could develop into a dominant player in NORTHWEST OK JANUARY 2018

the paint. Breeasha Shaver (5-2, Fr.) is one to look for this season. Shaver is quick and tough on defense. Her inexperience at the varsity level should quickly go away with more minutes on the floor. Other player to watch this season include Kaiasha Shaver (5-2, So.), Tori Jackson (5-5, Jr.), Jessica Emmerson (5-9, So.), Zurae Robinson (5-7, Jr.), Edith Vega (5-8, So.) and Sam Roberts (5-3, So.). “We are a very young team with only two returning starters, but this team has all the tools to compete on any night. They are a great group of kids who work hard and have high expectations of themselves,” said coach Spears.

The Oklahoma Bible Academy Trojans learned a lot last season after starting several underclassmen. This season head coach Alan Ford returns three starters to the lineup with senior Jud Minx (5-10) leading the way.

“We are looking forward to what this team can do. We had a great offseason and this team has a ton of potential. Our coaching staff has great expectations about how good this team can be,” said coach Ford. “Our team was young last year with two starting sophomores and two more off of the bench. We believe that we will be a very competitive team in Class A this year.

Our group of guys are very focused as we begin the year and our practices have been extremely competitive as a result.”

Minx will start at guard giving the team some experience in the backcourt. Last season he averaged 5.0 points and 2.7 rebounds a game. Junior point guard William Price (5-10) has a smooth shot and will light up the scoreboard averaging 13 points and 4.6 rebounds a game. This combo in the backcourt is a dangerous one. Forwards Garret Salyer (6-3, Jr.) and Luke Potter (6-2, Jr.) are a formidable force inside. Salyer averaged 4.0 points with 3.7 rebounds a game, while Potter accounted for 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. Guard Traber Smithson (5-10, Jr.) is another solid player in the backcourt for the Trojans. Smithson has the ability to average more than four points a game

with a couple of rebounds. Several guys will be key for the Trojans this season playing crucial roles off the bench. Owen Runco (6-3, Sr.) gives coach Ford a solid option when he wants to go big, while Landon Crismas (5-10, Jr.) is another option at guard. Montell Meyer (6-5, Sr.) can make an impact in the paint for the Trojans. Last season Meyer averaged 2.0 points with 1.8 rebounds a game. Other players to watch include Andrew Do (5-10, So.), Connor O’Neill (5-7, So.), Zach Schovanec (5-7, So.) and Nehemiah Noak (5-7, So.).

The Trojans got off to a quick start this season going 6-2 in their first eight games. Wins over Waukomis, KremlinHillsdale, Covington-Douglas and Thomas on the road has set the pace for the season. During the Pond Creek-Hunter tournament the Trojans dropped a game to the host team, 56-62, who are ranked No. 1 in Class A. Big tournaments are on the horizon for the Trojans as they will travel to Okeene for their tournament and they plan to participate in the Three Rivers Conference Tournament in early January. They will finish the regular season in early February with two of their last three games on the road.

Enid has gotten off to a slow start so far this season at 0-4, but Handing says they’ve shown improvement.

ENID CHARACTER COUNTS

Enid Character Counts: Jerra Williams - Enid Football A two-sport athlete at Enid High School, Jerra Williams has worked hard to become one of the go-to players on the football field and the basketball court. “I love playing two sports, but I think my favorite has to be basketball. Only because I’ve liked it my entire life,” said Williams.

As a football player Williams was a productive and durable player for the Plainsmen. A proven commodity for Enid, Williams is the type of teammate everyone wants to be around and have on their squad.

“My teammates mean a lot to me, I learned without teamwork you wouldn’t have a good team, the support that we all gave each other during football season made us the team we were,” said Williams.

In the classroom, Williams focuses his attention on making the grades and making the most of his opportunities in class. “Academics are important to me, because I plan on attending college and I can’t do that without the grades,” said Williams.

Outside of athletics, Williams volunteers his time with the Special Olympics team at Enid every year. Service to his community and school is a high priority for Williams. With a great foundation at home, Williams is proud to represent his family on and off the field.

“My father has been a big influence in my life,” said Williams. “After every game whether it’s football or basketball, we have our fatherson talk if I didn’t give my all in a game. He lets me know that; he would always say son do your best. My dad has always wanted the best for me. I couldn’t ask for a more loving and caring father. My dad makes me happy and proud to be a part of this family.”

As a student-athlete at Enid High school, Williams has enjoyed many great moments on the football field and the basketball court.

“I would have to say my favorite moment at

EHS was when we played PC West and had the largest fourth quarter come back in the history of Oklahoma football beating PC West, 49–42.

Now in his senior year, Williams has plans to continue his education at the next level and pursue a degree in business.

“I’ve always been a big fitness guy, I still run half marathons and stuff like that,” said Tarango, “when I was in the marines they stressed that a lot and it just stuck, I’m kind of a health nut.” Tarango says that now he is really into teaching, even though he got into it for baseball.

“Being a coach was the best way for me to stay involved with baseball and that involved teaching, but now I really love teaching just as much as I love baseball,” said Tarango. Richie said his approach to teaching his classes is multi-faceted.

“Bill Mayberry is the coach that brought me over and really started the turnaround, but Brad Gore has taken it to another level, he’s taught the kids a lot about discipline and winning the right way. He’s brought comradery to both the players and the coaches,” said Tarango.

Richie has coached this group of seniors all the way up from eighth grade and expects big things out of this group this year. “Our ultimate goal is to host a regional,” said Tarango, “we are really stressing to the kids that every game counts if we want to make a run to state.” Richie Tarango is the Enid area Teacher of the Month.

Farm Credit Athlete Spotlight: Pond Creek Hunter’s Cole Jones Written by Kelsey Baucom Pond Creek Hunter senior Cole Jones has played basketball since the first grade, and he loves the game. Of course it doesn’t hurt that his father is a basketball coach as well. “My dad was a coach and I was always in the gym,” said Jones. As a point guard and a four year starter for Pond Creek Hunter’s varsity basketball team, Jones’s main strength lies in his scoring ability. “I love shooting the ball,” he said.

It is this skill that Jones brings to the table when the clock is counting down

and his team is counting on him. He said that his teammates mean the world to him, and when asked how he expects the Panthers to do this season, he had nothing but confidence. “I expect my team to be in the finals playing for the gold ball,” he said. Over the years Coach Darin Jones, Cole’s father, has seen the senior point guard become a leader on the team and a valued asset to its success.

“Cole has been a four year starter. He has led Pond Creek Hunter to state the past three years,” said Coach Jones. “He will surpass the 2,000 point mark this season. He has committed to play for NWOSU next year. As a coach’s kid, he is incredibly

Oklahoma Bible Academy has numerous outstanding student-athletes and senior Jud Minx is no exception. Minx plays football and basketball for OBA, all while slating a 3.9 grade point average. “I’m proud that I am able to maintain a high GPA while also being an athlete,” Minx said. “It shows my ability to manage my time effectively and still perform at a high level academically.”

Minx gives 100 percent in everything he is involved in and his hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

“Jud is a student who works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the court,” said Alan Ford, OBA basketball coach. “Jud is a highly respected student at OBA. He tries his best to excel in whatever he does.” It’s self-motivation that propels Minx to a high level of achievement both on the field and in the classroom. Ford said he has never had to talk to Minx about his work ethic in the classroom or the gym because Minx “wants to fully utilize the talents and abilities that God has given him.”

“I’m motivated to work my hardest in the classroom to glorify God,” Minx said. “I was taught as a child to do everything to the best of my ability.” Minx enjoys challenging himself in every aspect of life, and his favorite class is AP Psychology because it is thought-provoking and he can learn about new and different topics.

“I do like being (tested) academically,” Mix said. “I believe that being challenged right now in high school will help me deal with deadlines and other difficulties later in life.” Minx plans to attend Oklahoma State University and is excited for the changes and new challenges that awaits him.

“My favorite thing about (OBA) is the community that we have and the friendships I have developed,” Minx said.

Academic Athlete: Chisholm’s Kolten Childers Written by Kelsey Baucom Coach Miller, head basketball coach at Chisholm High, describes Kolten Childers as the “student of the game” who puts a lot of time in outside of practice working at his skills.

“Kolten is real basketball smart,” said Coach Miller. “He really likes to get his teammates involved – more of a ‘pass first’ type of point guard who has the ability to score at any time. He can shoot it and stretch the floor with his passing ability.” A junior this year, Childers moved to Chisholm from Waynoka. He is already enjoying his first year as a Longhorn.

Coach Brady Page enters his seventh season at Hennessey and he’s excited to see what this team can accomplish in 2017-18.

Carlos Rojo (5-8) is another senior starting for coach Page. Rojo will set up the offense at point guard giving the Eagles an experienced player in the backcourt. His ability to find the open man and work to get open shots of his own, will only help players like Vinson and shooting guard Brandon Ramirez (5-10, Jr.). Ramirez can score from several spots on the floor and is one player to watch as the season advances.

Angel Rodriguez (5-9, So.) will come off the bench giving the Eagles a solid player who can provide the team with quality minutes on the floor.

Other players to watch include Cooper Fuksa (6-2, So.), Zane Hugaboom (5-11, So.), Bryan

Villalobos (5-9, So.) and Wade Vinson (5-11, Fr.).

The Eagles jumped out to a fast start winning their first eight games of the season. Victories over Pioneer and Chisholm at home set the tone for their road wins over Blackwell, Fairview, Cashion and Crescent. The season will wrap up on the road for the Class 3A No. 6 Eagles at the No. 1 Class 4A team, Kingfisher.

Exactly how this team will end the season is still uncertain, but if early games are a gauge, then expect the Eagles to compete in post-season play.

FFA Spotlight Billy Trotter – Drummond Chapter President Billy Trotter has not only left his mark on the FFA program at Drummond High School, he’s cut a path for others to follow as a student and entrepreneur.

Keith Dillingham heads the FFA department at Drummond High School and said of Trotter, “he was recently a National Proficiency Award finalist in goat production and would be a good person to feature.”

Trotter has been involved with FFA for five years and his reasoning for joining Ag was based in what he saw from the students that came before him. “The upperclassmen I seen in FFA seemed to hold themselves to higher standard and had a work ethic that didn’t compare to other kids. That is something I wanted to achieve in my own life so I joined Ag,” said Trotter. For Trotter being a member of the FFA goes beyond making a grade in school. From being a role model to starting a business, Trotter has made the most of every opportunity granted him in FFA, while serving as chapter president.

“My main purpose is to be a role model for the other kids in the chapter and my community. My main goal is to hopefully educate the students in my school about agriculture,” said Trotter.

Just as Mr. Dillingham pointed out, Trotter has turned his passion for learning and Ag into a thriving business.

“I have a 70-head business named Trotter Show Goats. Through genetic selection I produce top quality show animals and sell them all over the country. I’ve sold goats to nine different states,” said Trotter. Even though graduation is just around the corner, Trotter plans to continue his education in another field of study.

“I plan on attending OSU IT for diesel mechanics. After I finish that I intend on expanding my goat herd operation and continue selling quality show animals to kids across the country,” said Trotter.

During his time in FFA Trotter has built many relationships and attended events all of the state. “I have mostly enjoyed building relationships within the FFA community. I

have made friendships that will last a lifetime. Through leadership events, conventions, and officer teams I have met people all over the country that I have a lot in common with and can enjoy being around,” said Trotter.

As a member of FFA, Trotter offers some advice to other students who may consider joining FFA. “FFA is more than livestock there are endless opportunities and directions you could go. I promise there is something there for everyone, all you have to do is give it a chance.”

Now a junior, he is entering his second year with the Chiefs. The character of the 6’7 230-pound power forward has helped him work his way into a leadership role on the Chiefs’ basketball team and post a 3.5 GPA in the classroom.

“Whether it’s getting better at basketball or learning more about his faith, he’s always trying to improve,” Guffy said. “He’s active in the gym and at church. He’s also one who asks kids to go with him to both.” On top of practice, Hall attends church twice on Sunday and makes it to Wednesday night service. He also spends three to four nights a week studying course material.

“It puts a target on my back,” Hall said. “Not only am I an athlete, but I’m involved in church. I have to watch what I’m doing because there are people looking up to me.” Hall gives credit and respect to his family for the way they have raised him. The opportunity to

further his education while playing basketball in college also serves as motivation for Hall. “I’ve had schools contact me,” Hall said. “Basketball is a little part to a scholarship. They will recruit you if you have good film, but a good GPA and ACT score helps.” Hall has already taken the ACT and has plans to take it again in hopes of an even higher score. “These things lead to his peers wanting to work as hard as he does,” Guffy said. “I’m very proud of him for what he has accomplished so far and the direction he is heading.”

Alva Spotlight Athlete: Lane Scarborough Story By Ryan Stone The Alva Spotlight Athlete is boys’ basketball player Lane Scarborough. Lane is a senior leader for the gold bugs and is averaging 12 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Behind Scarborough, Alva has gotten off to a 5-1 start so far this season. Scarborough says as a senior he feels responsibility as a leader for this year’s team.

“I feel a great deal of responsibility as a leader,” said Scarborough, “I’ve been looking forward to this the whole time I’ve been in high school and I look to be the best leader I can possibly be and also help get others involved.” Scarborough also played tight end

and defensive end for Alva’s football team that made it all the way to the State Semifinals. His basketball coach Shane Feeley thinks that’s helped Lane as a leader.

“He’s most definitely a leader for us, his teammates respect him. He’s a super nice kid and I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about him. Playing football has helped him both physically and as a leader. The other players look to him, he’s an emotional leader so we look to him to control that emotion so that other players will follow that example,” said Feeley. He also added 93 tackles, 1.5 sacks, forced three fumbles and had one interception. Murrow played big for the Goldbugs this season, but with the end of football season, Murrow turns his focus to the basketball court. “Football is my favorite sport because I’ve grown up playing it and anytime I’m on the field I don’t have to think about anything else but the game,” said Murrow. “Expect all good things from the basketball team. We have played together for a while so we know how

each other plays and we are disciplined and buy into what coach is giving.”

Murrow is close to his teammates and said they are like a second family. “My teammates are my family and they mean everything to me. There’s no bond like you and your teammates create,” said Murrow. In the classroom Murrow is just as focused.

“Academics have always been preached in my life and I know they mean a lot for where you want to go later on in life,” said Murrow.

Academics and athletics go hand-inhand for Murrow. Playing at the next level is a goal he has set for himself.

“I plan on attending a college somewhere to continue learning and playing football,” said Murrow.

On a senior laden team, it can be difficult to stand out, but Cloyd has made a name for herself as a tough competitor and someone shows good sportsmanship before, during and after the game. “I believe that good sportsmanship can define a good player and a great player. Every time I step out on the court I make sure to play hard but also be

NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY

NWOSU Basketball Update GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE RUN IN STORE FOR WOMEN ALVA, Okla. – Two different, yet equally impressive wins before the winter break have set the stage for a special spring semester for the Northwestern Oklahoma State women’s basketball.

A record-setting 98-point outburst and a stingy 41 point defensive effort in consecutive road wins to finish out the 2017 calendar year have propelled the Lady Rangers into their winter break and figure to be catalysts to continue to prove themselves as an elite team inside the Great American Conference. Those impressive victories away from Percefull Fieldhouse came against a traditionally strong Oklahoma Christian team back on Dec. 5 and then a top team from the Heartland Conference in Newman four days later, and proved that coach Tasha Diesselhorst’s squad is built for victory no matter what the type of game is presented by the opponent. Northwestern finds themselves in a three-way tie for fifth place entering the 2018 session of the season and will welcome Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello to Alva for two critical games set for 5:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rangers went a combined 3-1 over Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello a season ago, and have added some key new faces that have already made their impact on this season.

MEN LOOK TO BUILD IN 2018 ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State men’s basketball team will enter the 2018 calendar year in a three-way tie for second place in the Great American Conference after going 3-1 in the first conference games of the season.

Junior Treyvon Andres has made his presence felt early and often in multiple facets of the game and has provided the squad with a bigbody underneath the glass that is so vital towards success in the GAC. Andres has averaged 13.7 points per game while ranking second in the league with a 64 percent shooting percentage from the floor, placing him second in the category in the conference.

A consistent flow of role players have stepped up as needed as well, including guard Jakeria Otey and center Selena McDonald, who rank near the top of the league in separate defensive categories. With the abundance of young talent available on the bench as well, several other names figure to make an impact as the heart of the conference schedule begins in 2018.

A continuing focus on defensive pressure and the talents of multiple individuals on the offensive side have given the Rangers the means needed to rise as a force to be reckoned with within the conference. That defensive pressure has the Rangers ranked first in the conference allowing just 67.3 points per game while capitalizing on the offensive end as well, ranking fifth in the league with a team field goal percentage of 48 percent.

has also returned to the floor for the Black-andRed and has continually stretched opposing defenses, ranking second in the conference with an average of 3.1 made three-pointers a game. Halvorson and guard Brandon Green have formed a formidable duo in the back-court for coach Dirden, along with point guard A.J. Jones, who has averaged 3.4 assists a game. Northwestern will take on Southern Arkansas Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. inside Percefull Fieldhosue before squaring off with defending league champions Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in what figures to provide Ranger fans a match-up of two legitimate contenders for a conference championship.

Freshman Kinsey Neiderer and Bailey Brown have both had tremendous individual outings on the offensive side of the ball thus far while junior Jade Jones has continued to guide an offense that ranks seventh in the league with an average of 70.3 points per game. KINGFISHER YELLOWJACKETS BOYS Jared Reese 16-17 Record: 28-3 State Champions Staff: Chris Combs, Danny Green

Two VYPE Top 100 selectees highlight a talented roster for head coach Jared Reese. In his fourth season as head coach, Jared Reese took the Yellowjackets to the state finals winning the gold ball and bringing Kingfisher High School their first state title in boy’s basketball. Jett Sternberger (6-1, Jr.) was the state tournament MVP last year as he led the Yellowjackets to the state title. For the season Sternberger averaged 20 points a game from his guard position. “The Yellowjackets should be talented on the offensive end of the floor, with a multitude of ball handlers and shooters. We will be young this season with only one senior and several freshmen that should see significant playing time,” said coach Reese. “With the leadership of Jett Sternberger and Trey Green the Jackets hope to grow and be a contender in March.” Green (6-2, Jr.) is another offensive threat and like Sternberger, Green was named to the All-Tournament team last season. For the year he

28

averaged 15 points a game. Bijan Cortes (6-1, Fr.) and Matthew Stone (6-2, Fr.) are two exciting young players coach Reese will start this season. Both are electric with the ball, but lack varsity experience. Reece Lafferty (6-1, Jr.) will start at guard giving the Yellowjackets a potent backcourt. Forwards Declan Haub (6-2, Jr.) and Bryce Carrington (6-2, Sr.) will come off the bench to give coach Reese some quality minutes inside. Also look for Aryan Haro (5-10, So.) at guard.

Also look for Graham Gore (5-11, Sr.) to make a major impact this season. Gore averaged 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds a game, but those numbers could increase with more playing time. Several players will look to help this team continue their winning ways by coming off the bench. Dylan Day (6-1, So.), Rhett Gambill (6-1, Jr.) and Riley Tune (6-2, So.) are three forwards that give coach Nyberg excellent options when he needs to go to the bench. “We bring back our leading scorer and his leadership will be key as we look

to develop some talented, but young players,” said coach Nyberg.

The level of competition will pick up in January as the Wildcats will take on Cashion and Vici on the road and host Hinton, Mooreland and Watonga.

Two longtime rivals and two storied programs took the field at Southwestern Oklahoma State University as Shattuck High School got the best of Laverne High School.

The Shattuck High School Indians won their 10th state championship in school history and it came in a 30-16 route. Laverne defeated the Indians, 40-34 in overtime in the 2016 championship game, but it was a different story this time around, as Shattuck executed better to win the Class B state title. Shattuck coach Blake Lamle said the devastating loss last season was tough to get over,

but his team knew they had another great chance this season and didn’t want to waste it.

It started early for Shattuck, forcing a quick three-and-out and then going 48 yards in four plays to go ahead 8-0 after a 26-yard run from Riley Girton. After a Laverne turnover, Brendan Girton added another score for Shattuck as they went up 16-0. It was fairly simple after that for the Indians as they got up 30-8 before Laverne added a late score to make the final score 30-16. The Indians won their first state championship since 2015, when they were in Class C, and this was their 9th

state championship in 8-man football. Lamle said this game was a great team effort and something for his team to be really proud of.

“Getting so close last year and then comping up short, I just don’t think you get over a feeling like that,” Lamle said. “You never know how many chances at a title you will get; have to take advantage of them.”

He said Shattuck constantly improved this season after last year’s heartbreak. With only one senior on the team, they didn’t have too many kids that felt last season’s heartbreak. “Our O-line and d-line are the

core of what we do, and I felt like especially from mid-year on, they played better,” Lamle said. “I also think we started younger kids that got stronger and more experienced. We had one senior on this year’s team, Riley Girton, who I thought had a great year at running back and defensive end.” This was Lamle’s fifth season at Shattuck, second as the head coach, but was part of the team that last won in 2015. Overall, he said the win was very exciting and he was really happy for the players because they worked really hard.

Treating the Patient Not Just the Cancer At INTEGRIS Cancer Institute Enid, we believe there’s a fundamental difference between treating cancer and treating the cancer patient. No two cancers are alike. More importantly, no two patients are alike. And no course of treatment is right for every patient. That’s why we work with each person to get to know them, get to know their needs and do everything in our power to ensure they receive a customized course of care and treatment. It’s why we collaborate with specialists from the Mayo Clinic for the most complex and demanding cases. Because it’s not just about living longer. It’s about living better.
