Jake Fox OFFENSE
Offensively, Gross will have seven returning starters from last years squad with some good senior leadership. At quarterback will be Jake Fox (6-4, 200, Sr.) who passed for over 900 yards last season with seven touchdowns. Those statistics should go up with targets like Pierce Brady (5-10, 175, Sr.) and Branson Stickney (5-10, 160, Sr.) to look for downfield. Brady returns after a 25 catch, three touchdown junior campaign. There should also be plenty of yards gained on the ground with running backs Anthony Oyekan, Cory Taylor and Jon Werthen. Those three combined for a total of 1,428 yards last season and 11 touchdowns. Anchoring the line will be another Hayden Brauninger (6-3, 210, Sr.) Running out of the I Formation, look for a lot of interchanging parts with fresh bodies and legs keeping the Dutch offense moving this season.
Defensively, Coach Gross said they have a group that has grown up and ready to be physical up front. Leading the way will be James Eaton (6-2, 250, Sr.) at tackle. Last season he had 39 tackles and seven sacks. Next to him will be Larry Goode (6-0, 300, Sr.) at nose guard. Goode contributed 44 tackles and 3 sacks in the 2012. Also up front will be Morgan Salisbury (6-3, 195, Sr.) coming on strong from his end position. The linebacking crew will be anchored by Jordan Meicke (5-10, 200, Sr.) who is the leading returning tackler from last years squad with 85. The defensive backfield will be led by John Byers (5-11, 160, Sr.) at cornerback. He had 36 tackles last season and led the team in interceptions with five. All in all, Gross feels very good about the season. “We have a strong senior class that has a chance to lead us to the playoffs.”
