This September we held an event at Arcadia to dedicate a memorial bench to the son of one of our team members, Rachel Pollock.

The Pollock Family

Rachel, her husband Joe, and their daughter, Bella, along with the Arcadia staff joined together to celebrate a very special young man, their son and brother, JJ. We shared the story of JJ who was diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a cancer of the kidneys that affects children. JJ was one of many children diagnosed with cancer every year. In 2023, an estimated 9,910 children 15 years old and younger along with another 5,280 teens between the ages of 15 to 19 in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer.

JJ Pollock

JJ’s story isn’t just about cancer, its about a young man who demonstrated to those around him what the strength of a warrior was, and to have the quiet perseverance of a life worth living. He often told others to be brave, yet we looked into his eyes and wanted to know how we could be braver than him.

Rachel, Joe, and Bella, and the staff at Arcadia came together on September 27th to share in the remembrance of JJ. In his short 11 years of life, he made a difference to those he met, imprinting his forever smile on our minds. For his family, who miss him every day, and we as a community will take comfort as we remember and honor him.

Team Arcadia gathers for the unveiling of a bench to remember and celebrate JJ’s life.
