From The Governor: As most of you know, I have jumped back into the Governor’s seat for one more go around. The November VPPA Board meeting went well without having our long time Executive Secretary Renny Cave. Anthony Rumley has stepped in to fill that spot. He and Jeff Kaiser will need all of our help with our Convention only 6 weeks away. Robert has laid out the print competition deadlines. All entries will be done through the PPA website. Please let me know if you have any Questions. The four Governor’s are already working on the summer seminar for the first of August 2016, we will be sharing more info at the convention. One Final note, if you have not paid your dues, please do so on the website or contact Don Aittama directly. You don’t want to miss any of the events for 2016. Kevin

Kevin Hurley owns and operates a portrait studio in Roanoke. For the last 15 years he has served the VPPA from Governor to Chairman of the board. In that time he has earned his FP and Master Craftsman degrees. Kevin attended Morehead State University where he earned a BA degree. This is Kevin’s 19th year in business and he attributes most of his success to the members of VPPA.

From the Lt. Gov. Happy New Year, Blue Ridge District Photographers, First off, let me express my gratitude for being elected Lt. Gov. of this fine district. I appreciate the opportunity this provides and hope I can serve it to its purpose. I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas season with Family and Friends and are prepping for a very prosperous 2016! Part of my duty in this office is to organize the monthly meetings. As challenging as this is, it is also very exciting in the amount of interest I have already received from potential speakers. Kevin and I have already got the ball rolling for a few dates. It also helps us if you are interested, or know anyone that is interested in speaking merits towards the Craftsman degree. Please refer them to me. We're also looking at topics. Some of the topics that we brought up are; Print Critique (Jan), Marketing, Seniors, Photo Restoration, A Photo Excursion/ Exploration with a possible additional day for blind critique of the results. Secretarial Moment: I just wanted to take a second to point out that the best way to get your money’s worth out of VPPA membership is to attend District monthly meetings, the annual Convention and the Summer Seminar. You’ve already paid for them by virtue of the VPPA annual dues, but it is up to you to make that money work for you. Join us in Roanoke at Kevin’s studio on

Monday, January 18th for a little help getting your competition images in order, and be sure to go with us to Williamsburg February 19-23 for the Annual Convention. Growing up, I recall many times my parents saying that you get out of anything only what you put into it. And that surely applies to any and all organizations you join. C’mon, learning how to take your business to the next level is what it is all about. Having fun doing that puts icing on the cake. And we all deserve a nice big slice of cake. Michael

David Lee and friend at the Annual Convention — be there!
