CHEMICAL COLORS: A

SYNTHETIC SYNESTHETIC EXPERIENCE

Walk through the fabric to see artworks (by partnering artists)

projected onto the fabric, each created for the respective song you hear playing

To request light colors simply say out loud in a clear, strong voice the color you’d like. Our lighting designer will be able to hear you due to the mics that are on the floor.

Enjoy and experience the beauty and power of the arts!

W H A T I T I S :

This project is Kristina Coggin’s capstone project for the Schedler Honors College, on which she has worked for the last two years. It is an interactive, multimedia art installation that explores the phenomenon of synesthesia (more specifically, chromesthesia), demonstrating the correlations among music, color, and emotion.

Visitors are able to walk through a 37’x 31’x17’ fabric installation while I

perform an original album of five songs, each exploring a different facet of human emotion. Artworks from partnering artists are projected onto the fabric, creating an immersive experience. Visitors are also able to live-request light colors from a partnering lighting designer who live-mixes the lights, allowing them to manipulate the mood of their environment This project acts as a synthetic synesthetic experience to demonstrate the power of the arts, allowing people to express their emotions through immersion and interactivity.
