VWCV General Meetings Melbourne Club meetings are held every fourth Tuesday of every month at 8pm at Bell’s Hotel, 157 Moray St, South Melbourne, unless advised of an alternative venue in the Club Newsletter.

Volkswagen Accessories

Well we are back from the Volkswagen spectacular, a great event if you like Volkswagens. Kombi’s of various types were everywhere, I think they even outnumbered beetles. They’re where over 250 VW’s registered which is an impressive sight when they take over the main street of Nambucca heads. A special mention to Christine who one the presidents best pirate/wench costume which revealed the hidden side to her talents. One forgets that kombi’s have a different fuel consumption, 14 Ltr/100km sure put a dent in the wallet.

Volkswagen has always endeavoured to provide the best quality accessories and new parts through the VW dealer networks.

Don’t forget that the September meeting is the VWCV Annual General Meeting and election of officers, if you are interested in a position get you nomination forms in.

Volkswagens have always been available with many unique factory options but the dealer accessory program gave the purchaser a chance to enhance their own VW as need arose and at very reasonable costs.

The presidents pleasure will be on again, this is the trip to Shepparton to attend the Annual Swap Meet on Sunday 14th September, travelling up on the Saturday 13th staying at the Victoria Lake Caravan Park in Shepparton and going to the Swap meet on the Sunday. The trip will once again be a leisurely (mystery) cruise to Shepparton with some activities on the way. The trip will be about 300km unless we get lost with dinner at the Club across from the caravan park. Any one interested let me know and I will send out the details. The other two activities coming up are the Swap Meet on the Sunday after the AFL Grand Final at Williamstown this year not Backus Marsh and the DOTVW same place different date, see the Magazine Ads for full details. I have also heard that for those more interested in cruses there could be a few more organised for the remainder of this year and next year. That’s it for now see you at Bell’s on the 26th.

In the 1960’s when purchasing a new VW in Australia you were encouraged to fit the approved VW accessories available directly from the dealer. New VW owners were supplied with an accessory brochure of which they could select from over 40 various items. Some accessories were made and fitted enhanced and improve the driving experience, others further beatified and personalised the Vehicle.

New accessories were continually designed, manufactured and added to the dealerships networks in order satisfy the ever increasing desire of the discerning VW owner. Options aside, the factory approved accessories gave the Volkswagen enthusiast the chance to purchase high quality items that were not available to many other motoring marks during the late 1950’s and 60’s. The new accessories were of an exceptional high quality and in many cases the items offered were manufactured for the Australian market only. This makes our Australian accessories highly desirable on the overseas market. Swap meets and VW club days are a good way to find those rare and elusive parts.
