REVIEW The sequel to, “Maybe Someday”, picked up following the events of the last book with Ridge and Sydney, but also with Maggie, Warren, and Bridgette. I was initially expecting this to just be focused on Ridge and Sydney’s, but seeing that Maggie’s perspective was also included was a great surprise. With new relationships, it meant new dynamics, and new things to work through. Ridge and Sydney were finally together after all they went through, and now that they were together they were learning how to navigate their lives as a couple. With Maggie, she was trying to make the best of her life as she usually did, but this time around she felt reinvigorated to trying new things, and completing her bucket list she made years ago. With different point of views from the characters it gave a more in depth look to what each character was going through and
how they were all connected to one another. A sequel I had been dying to read once I finished the first book, and I absolutely love both Ridge and Sydney. Right away in the beginning, I was loving it especially with all the romance and cuteness between Ridge and Sydney. In the previous book, there was a lot that Ridge and Sydney had to work through (in this book as well), but seeing how content and happy they were finally being together made me smile so much. I’ve always loved the connection between Sydney and Ridge and this book delivered even more wholesome, heartfelt romantic moments between them. In addition, the love Sydney and Ridge had for each other was so apparent even when words weren’t spoken out loud. Even through small touches of skin to skin contact or an look in their eye, sometimes the things that were unspoken had the stronger effect between them. (Sigh) just when I thought I couldn’t swoon anymore, Ridge had me going “awww” and internally saying, “that’s so romantic!” Yeah within the first few chapters, I was once again hooked on Ridge and his sentimental thoughtfulness, what a man. Sydney and Ridge were perfect for one another and the passion they shared was beautiful. I cannot stop gushing about those two because, they truly have such a lovely connection, and it made me feel like such a hopeless romantic while reading. I initially expected the book to focus on just Sydney and Ridge, but reading not only Maggie’s point of view, but also Jake’s was great. Maggie had always been a character I knew about, and saw for some moments in the last book since she use to be Ridge’s long time girlfriend, but now I got to truly learn about her. With Maggie’s illness, she was well aware of her short time frame of living so she took advantage of making the most of her life, and not holding back, that changed when she met a certain cardiologist named, Jake. Right away, Jake seemed like not only a great guy, but a wonderful person who treated Maggie with such warmth and had a fun personality. Without a doubt, there was chemistry and attraction between Maggie and Jake, but Maggie being fully aware of her situation, didn’t want to jump back into another relationship especially after having been in a long one previously. Although it made Maggie sad (as well as me for her) she knew there could be no future with Jake. Meanwhile, in Jake’s perspective we learn he also couldn’t stop thinking about Maggie and how much of a strong effect she had on him right away, talk about fireworks going off between them. Not every romance is perfect and with Ridge and Sydney they were well aware of their relationship having unique circumstances. Typically in a relationship, you wouldn’t expect your partner to be in contact with their ex, and in Ridge’s case, he was always going to be part of Maggie’s life. With Maggie having only Ridge (and Warren) as her only support system, and being aware of her medical condition, they had always been there for her. For Sydney, it was a matter of trying to understand that Maggie was always going to be part of Ridge’s life and she had to adjust to her new relationship norm. For Ridge, he felt like he was torn between Sydney and Maggie. All Ridge wanted was to be with Sydney, but also make sure that he was there for Maggie. The way that Colleen wrote this type of predicament that had Sydney, Ridge, and Maggie navigating this was honest and real. I genuinely love all the characters, but seeing how they each felt in terms of how to go about their lives, especially with one another was interesting to see with their reactions and all. The level of honesty and authenticity between all the characters was raw and at times emotional. As much as Maggie would have loved to be completely independent and not rely on others to help her, she still needed Ridge and Warren’s help as they were essentially the closest thing to family that she had. As the story progressed, I really loved seeing Sydney become more of an active participant in helping Maggie. Sydney could have easily been the type of person who could have demanded that Ridge not see her anymore, but that wasn’t who Sydney was. Sydney was understanding and compassionate, and tried to ensue she could help in whatever way possible. Seeing Sydney and Maggie on good terms made me hopeful that they were slowly on their way to becoming friends. On the topic of friends, seeing Bridgette become more of a friend to Sydney was shocking since Bridgette hadn’t always been the nicest character, but for some reason Bridgette became attached to Sydney and it was nice seeing the girls kind of form a friendship all together. In the most unlikely way possible, Sydney, Ridge, Maggie, Warren, and Bridgette formed a friend group that supported each other, and I loved seeing that through the story. This was such a great, loving story. I loved getting to read the different point of views from Sydney, Ridge, Maggie, and Jack. This book had multiple layers to it that went from showing the
raw, honest truth when being faced with the type of situation that Sydney and Ridge found themselves in, and seeing Maggie take on a new direction in her life despite some set backs. There were some heartfelt, beautiful moments that made me smile and of course it was so romantic with the things that Sydney and Ridge said to each other. The friendship dynamics between everyone was so wholesome and hilarious, one I never would have expected, but seeing everyone come together in such a family way was great. The ending and epilogue was absolutely wonderful and a great way to end Sydney and Ridge’s story. I love, love, loved every moment, even some of the little emotional moments, it was all beautiful written.
