Key Differences between Normal Tequila and Best Extra Añejo Tequila

Introduction  Tequila is a highly regarded alcoholic beverage served all around the world.  With Mexico holding the legal rights for manufacturing Tequilas, all of the Tequila in the world is shipped from Mexico.  Just like with other beverages, Tequila also comes in basic and premium variants.  Basic tequilas are Blanco and Reposado tequilas.  Premium Tequilas are Añejo and Extra Añejo tequilas.  The following slides showcase the major differences between basic tequilas and premium tequilas.

Difference 1: Manufacturing  Basic tequilas such as Blanco and Reposado tequilas are initially distilled the same way premium tequilas are made, but that is where the similarities stop.  Blanco tequilas are not aged at all and no other ingredients are added to them. They are the purest form of spirit and generally used for making cocktails and margaritas.  Reposado tequilas are aged for a few months up to a year.  Premium tequilas such as Añejo tequilas and Extra Añejo tequilas are aged for at least a year in oak barrels, ranging up to 5 years or more depending on the variant.

Difference 2: Pricing  Basic tequilas usually cost less and perfect for daily consumption.  Reposado Tequilas are slightly expensive than Blanco tequilas but they are still in the normal alcoholic beverage price range.  Premium tequilas like Añejo tequilas cost more, whereas the ultra-premium extra Añejo tequilas cost even more, making them perfect for popping out only on special occasions.

Difference 3: Drinking Style ď‚´ Blanco tequilas are specifically used for mixing in other kinds of drinks, although some of them are referred to be drunk as raw tequila shots or sipped. ď‚´ Reposado tequilas are generally preferred to be consumed as tequila shots and other such styles that involves gulping the drink in one go, with a few preferring them for sipping. ď‚´ Premium tequilas are exclusively preferred to be consumed by sipping, for the aged drinks contain rich tastes that cannot be fully enjoyed if gulped down in one go.

Availability  Every bar or shop that sells tequila has some variant of Blanco and Reposado tequilas on offer, whether that place is in Mexico, in USA or in some other country.  Añejo tequilas are also quite commonly available, but not as common as basic tequilas because of their high price.  Extra Añejo tequilas are somewhat uncommon in bars and shops outside Mexico because of their higher price tag and the drink not being targeted towards the common man.
