Rolls-Royce Royal Air Force Engineering Efficiency Award 2022

RAF Honington Armament Engineering Flight has been awarded the RollsRoyce Royal Air Force Engineering Efficiency Award 2022. The award recognises team accomplishment and is open to any Main or Deployed Operating Base based Service Person, civilian, contractor or mixed team that has made an original and outstanding contribution to enhancing efficiency, capability or effectiveness in engineering support to operations Displaying exceptional and relentless performance throughout enduring periods of intense stretch and workforce limitations, the RAF Honington Station Armoury, consisting of only 13 team members faultlessly inspected, maintained, rectified and delivered 2500 infantry weapons in direct support of Force Protection Force Elements within the United Kingdom and abroad. Driving ASTRA Project POMONA, the team has delivered a fully automated and digital weapons issue and receipt process that has reduced mandatory monthly weapons audit timelines by 92%. This has included revolutionary use of scanning and optical tracking of equipment and an MOD first use of robotics. Enhancing efficiency, capability and operational engineering support has been the result of steadfast professionalism and a thirst for delivering significant improvements in multiple arenas saving £35K on unit with a potential £5.8m saving across defence.

Awarded to the individual or team that has made the most significant impact on operations or the operational environment through Astra activity.
