So, many of you know that I took over from Sergeant Tom Tooth back in June and this is my first opportunity to write a piece for Vocalise. Since I first joined the Ashley Neighbourhood Team, a lot has happened and I have been out and about trying to meet as many of you as possible. I have to say it has been an absolute pleasure, I feel very welcome and lucky to be policing such a fabulous part of Bristol, so thank you for saying hello and stopping to have a conversation. I know I have said it before, but I love to talk! It’s one of the reasons I joined the police.
Which brings me on to a little bit about me. I have been a police officer for 18 years, mainly working in South Gloucestershire in response policing and investigative roles, but the last couple of years I have been working on increasing our representation within Avon and Somerset Police to become a more diverse organisation, something I feel really strongly and passionate about. So if you would like to have a chat about joining the police or discuss any of our great roles that we have, then please do get in touch with me. I have to say, out of all the areas I have policed, the Ashley Ward has such a community feel and is unique in relation to how the communities come together. I am really looking forward to the up and coming events for 2022 and getting stuck in, hoping that Covid doesn’t have an impact. I know that the Wilder Street party was a success in 2021 and I hope that these events continue to bring us together and help celebrate the well-known community spirt.

As we are all aware, Covid has had a major impact on how we police and our engagement with the public. Nevertheless my team and I are keen to start having neighbourhood meetings again, where you will be able to speak to your local neighbourhood officer in person. These meetings will be held on a monthly basis and will be advertised on the force website, so please do keep a look out. We hope to hold them in local community centres and also conduct online events. My vison for the Ashley Neighbourhood Team is for us to get back to being as visible as possible, holding community events and for the community to continue to work with us and support us in making the area a safer place to live. I really look forward to meeting you when I am out and about, please do not hesitate to say hello.
