UNMISSABLE EXHIBITIONS STARTING THIS MONTH BLOCKBUSTER AND SMALLER UNIQUE DISPLAYS COMING THIS MONTH GLITTERING GOLD: LUXURY AND POWER ON NOW UNTIL 13 AUGUST, THE BRITISH MUSEUM

Luxurious items have always been symbols of power, and they played a massive part in the Persian Empire with tents filled with gold and silver items. This blinging exhibition tells the story of Persian luxury and how it merged with Western tastes when Alexander the Great defeated the Persians. Beautifully crafted objects in gold, silver and glass abound. PAUL MCCARTNEY PHOTOGRAPHS 196364: EYES OF THE STORM 28 JUNE TO 1 OCTOBER 2023, NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

This unprecedented display will share, for the first time, an extraordinary archive of rediscovered and never-before-seen photographs taken by Paul McCartney. The exhibition will focus on the portraits captured by McCartney using his own camera between December 1963 and February 1964, the period in which John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were propelled from being the most popular band in Britain to an international cultural phenomenon. THE ROSETTIS AT TATE BRITAIN ON NOW UNTIL 23 SEPTEMBER, TATE BRITAIN

Charting the romance and radicalism of the artistic Rossetti generation – Dante Gabriel, Christina and Elizabeth (neé Siddal) – this one-of-a-kind exhibition at Tate Britain showcases the family’s revolutionary approach to life, love and art. It will mark a few firsts in the exhibition world, including being the first full retrospective of Elizabeth Siddal for 30 years, featuring her rare surviving watercolours and important drawings. It is also the first retrospective of Dante Gabriel Rossetti at Tate and the largest exhibition of his iconic pictures in two decades.
