Architectures of the Everyday... Changes

Architekturen des Alltags

As a short introduction, I want to say that being a foreigner, a foreign student, all the things I know about Vienna, all the things I‘ve known, rely mostly on the stories I‘ve heard or read. There is much, much more to learn, and I am yet to discover this city, its nature, its faces, stories, contradictions. That‘s why I have to say that – the excursions we have made, I found extremely useful, because to read, to hear and actually to see with your own eyes makes a big difference. Tourist sightseeing shows us nothing more than staged image of a glittering city, but to get to know one takes much more than that. Visiting the places we have visited during this course helped me a lot to at least try to define some of the main processes that are happening before our eyes. As a student of architecture I always find it interesting - watching, observing and understanding the changes, trying to figure out the rules - if there are any – trying to catch the pattern, to name these changes, to put them in a frame of certain economical, sociological, cultural or political phenomena.
