Vocabulary lists  are categorized by topic for efficient study. This organization provides a handy way for students to find the right word as they complete activities. Students are responsible for words and expressions taught in the illustrations and Más vocabulario lists, as well as the ¡Atención! sidebars. Encourage students to review vocabulary within the context of the lesson, as well as in these categorized lists to solidify acquisition of the words and phrases. References are made at the end of the list to the Expresiones útiles from Fotonovela and grammar charts. Students are also responsible for learning these terms for formative assessment.

Juan está más delgado hoy. Juan looks thinner today.

TEACHING OPTIONS

Extra Practice Add an auditory aspect to this grammar review. Go around the room and read a sentence with a direct object. Each student must repeat the sentence using a direct object pronoun. Ex: María y Jennifer están comprando sus libros para la clase. (María y Jennifer los están comprando./María y Jennifer están comprándolos.) TPR Divide the board into two columns, with the heads ser

and estar. Ask a volunteer to stand in front of each verb. The rest of the class should take turns calling out a use of ser or estar. The volunteer standing in front of the correct verb should step forward and give an example sentence. Ex: nationality or origin (Soy norteamericano/a.) After each volunteer has given two sentences, call on different students to take their places. Continue this way until everyone has had a turn.

A Diagnostic Wheel shows students what they know and don’t know so they can gauge their performance every step of the way. Students can choose to improve their score by watching the Grammar Tutorial again or by completing additional practice activities.

Students can print bilingual word lists. They can also create personalized word lists. Interactive Flashcards featuring the Spanish word or expression (with audio) and the English translation are available for fast and effective review and practice.
