MIDWINTER
by Ylläs

In midwinter, there’s plenty of space on the trails of Ylläs and an international ambience can be sensed in the villages.

Reindeer rides in crisp winter weather

Reindeer, the sherpas of the north, were used to help deliver mail in the Ylläs region back in the days. These days you can get to know them by visiting a reindeer farm, where safaris are also available. Book a visit through one of the activity companies in Ylläs.

Top tip: Ride a snowmobile to the top of Kuertunturi fell

In midwinter, temperatures sometimes drop so low that going outside seems unpleasant. Although hard to believe, it’s usually a lot warmer up the fell. The top of Kuertunturi fell is accessible on a snowmobile – the trail is quite demanding but the views over the snowy landscapes reward the effort.
