Welcome to our Great Little City Truro, the capital of Cornwall, is a taste of the city in a county best known for its spectacular landscapes and coastline – the perfect place for a city fix and an ideal base to explore the rest of Cornwall.

From stylish city centre hotels to family-run B&Bs, from secluded self-catering cottages to attractive campsites, there’s a whole host of accommodation options available in the Truro area. Our guide has all the information and inspiration you need to plan a city break, weekend away or relaxing longer stay. So, pack your bags! Getting to Truro is easy, with the A30 nearby and good connections by road from Falmouth, St Austell, and the rest of Cornwall. Once here, drivers have the choice of nine city-centre car parks and two Park & Ride services. As well as a mainline railway station and bus and coach stations, there’s a boat service to take you in and out of the city along the picturesque Fal River. Truro has the city at its heart but the rural district extends to some of Cornwall’s most beautiful villages, towns and hamlets, including Philleigh down the Fal on the Roseland Peninsula, and St Agnes on Cornwall’s north coast. Plus, stunning beaches, heritage estates and gardens, and a network of cycle and walking trails... Beyond the great little city, there’s a lot of great countryside!

WELCOME TO TRURO

SHOPPING For retail therapy, Cornwall comes to Truro. Here, independent shops rub shoulders with national retailers – big name stores, highend brands and smaller chains. Add to the mix indoor and outdoor markets and quaint shopping mews, and you have a vibrant city centre with something for everyone.

FOOD AND DRINK Truro is a criss-cross of cobbled quarters, browsable streets, Georgian and Victorian townhouses and historic mews – always rewarding for the curious and a quiet joy for the unhurried. Visitors will find it awash with funky diners and fashionable cafes, fine-dining restaurants, cosy gastropubs, cocktail bars and cool coffee hangouts. It’s a place that delights the eye and taste buds at every turn.

ENTERTAINMENT The city is a hive of cultural activity. The muchloved art deco, four-screen Plaza Cinema is a stone’s-throw from Cornwall’s leading theatre and arts venue, the Hall for Cornwall, offering the best in live entertainment, quality drama, dance, music and comedy, including national tours of top theatre productions and musicals.

Lemon Quay, right In the city centre, off historic Lemon Street, is the venue for festivals, outdoor events and regular food and craft markets, and there are smaller performance venues on the outskirts of the city.

ARTS AND CULTURE As well as its prospering art gallery community, Truro has the hugely engaging Royal Cornwall Museum, telling stories of the Cornish and their fascinating history with permanent collections and a rolling programme of exhibitions. Rising above it all are the three magnificent spires of the cathedral. Take time to absorb the building’s air of serenity and admire its stained glass windows and monuments of Cornish saints. Visit the cafe and take a seat in the impressive nave for a captivating performance by the renowned Cathedral Choir.

PARKS AND GARDENS In 2015, Truro won gold in the national RHS Britain in Bloom competition. It’s a place where well-maintained floral displays and hanging baskets offer splashes of colour at every turn; a city that prides itself on its parks, gardens and open spaces providing relaxation, exercise and open-air entertainment.
