TRANSPORTATION

A 26.2-mile light rail system runs from the North Shore and Downtown Pittsburgh through the city's southern neighborhoods. The “T” serves Downtown with a loop including First Avenue, Steel Plaza, Wood Street and Gateway Center. Stops on the North Shore include North Side and Allegheny Station. INSIDER INFO: Travel within Downtown and the North Shore is free 24/7 on the "T," Pittsburgh’s light rail system.

Public Transit Tips Port Authority of Allegheny County is the public transit agency for the Greater Pittsburgh area, providing bus, light rail (T) and incline services. Port Authority riders may pay to ride using cash (exact change), ConnectCards, prepaid tickets, passes, transfers or by showing ID for special fare programs, such as senior ID cards. Bus fares are paid as passengers board the bus. All rides are $2.75 cash (exact change) or $2.50 if using a pre-loaded ConnectCard. Frequent public transportation users should consider picking up a ConnectCard at the Port Authority’s Downtown Service Center on Smithfield Street or Giant Eagle grocery stores. Riders can load money onto their card by choosing the “stored value” option at a ConnectCard machine or retail outlet. When you ride, the cost of each trip will be deducted from the value stored on your card, and you won’t have to worry about exact change. Visitors may also purchase a $7 day pass for unlimited rides. Note that these passes can be purchased at the Downtown Service Center and 92

at kiosks located in T stations. Day passes expire at the end of service the day it is purchased. Weekly passes also are available. Travel within Downtown and the North Shore is free 24/7 on the T, Pittsburgh’s light rail system. You can transfer between the 28X (from Pittsburgh International Airport) and most other Port Authority bus or T routes in Downtown Pittsburgh. A transfer costs $1 with a ConnectCard and is valid for three hours. Request a transfer from the operator before paying your fare. Exact change is required when paying your fare as bus drivers do not carry change. (The $1 transfer option is not available for cashpaying customers.)

Tips for Taking a Cab Major hotels in the Downtown area have taxis and zTrip cars waiting outside their front doors. Or look for about a half-dozen "taxi stands" located around Downtown. zTrip has a fleet of more than 300 latemodel taxis on “call and demand” service, 24/7. You can request zTrip by calling 412-777-7777 or downloading the zTrip app.

Each VETaxi, a natural gas alternative with wheelchair and scooter accessibility, is driven by U.S. veterans or their family members. Download the VETaxi app or call 412-481-8387. Cranberry Taxi provides reliable service to Butler and northern Allegheny County areas 24/7. Call 724-282-3051.
