The Lima of Mario Vargas Llosa - Literary routes

Foreword Getting to know a city through a writer’s books does not just mean walking through the physical settings of streets, neighborhoods, and places (many of which still exist); it also entails using the imagination and, particularly, an inner sensitivity to be able to experience the settings and their long gone time period as described in the novels as well as to provide new interpretations of works, like those of Mario Vargas Llosa. PromPerú is proud to republish this literary guide, and we are certain that visitors will be able to enter the fictional universe of the most world famous Peruvian author. The works that are referenced here form part of Vargas Llosa’s initial writing stage. While many of the places have changed or no longer exist, taking an imaginary journey through them will be a way of traveling in time to grasp the context that molded a generation. We are furthermore planning on publishing more guides that feature other famous Peruvian writers so that PromPerú is contributing to enriching the city of Lima’s cultural heritage and identity.
