Muscatine Art Center houses works of art you can’t find just anywhere. Main displays change often and there’s always something new and exciting to take in. Don’t forget to tour and explore the beautiful “Laura Musser Mansion.” Full of history and fun artifacts, you’ll feel like you’re back in the early 1900s walking around one of the finest houses in Muscatine. Pine Creek Grist Mill and Melpine School-($donations welcome)-2 hours-Handicap Accessible 1 Mile from Highway 22 Between Muscatine and Davenport PineCreekGristMill.com Step back in time and tour the oldest working grist mill on its original site between the Mississippi and the Rockies which was built in 1848. Then walk over to the historic one-room school house. Be sure to use the proper entrance for your gender, play dress up and see the historic memorabilia. Feel free to explore the outdoors of Wild Cat Den State Park while you’re there. Informative walking tours are available on the trails. Environmental Learning Center-($ donations welcome)-1 hour-Handicap Accessible 3300 Cedar Street 563-264-5922 muscatinecountyconservation.com/elc_about.php For the animal and nature lovers, the Environmental Learning Center will share natural history with enthusiasts of all ages. Two large aquariums, multiple exhibits, live reptiles, amphibians, raptors and over 100 mounted animals are just some of the things waiting to be seen. The naturalist can visit with you and talk about topics of interest and lead you through the different displays. Located near Discovery Park, you can walk outdoors and go geocaching and fishing and take advantage of beautiful nature trails.

EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS:

Deep Lakes Park You’re encouraged to spend time at Muscatine’s newest park. A 345-acre parcel of ground which locals refer to as the old sand pits is in the process of becoming a hot spot for recreation lovers. Currently there is 130 acres of fishable water with the largest lake being 55 acres. Canoeing and kayaking is available and soon there will be swimming, trails and rental cabins!


Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area Choose your adventure at Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area. With campgrounds, playgrounds, picnic shelters, boat ramps and more this 675 park is the perfect family destination. You can camp, picnic, fish, hike, canoe, boat, hunt, go geocaching and study nature! Enjoy your time outdoors in Muscatine. Wildcat Den State Park A picturesque pine forest and nature trails await you at this historic site. Steamboat Rock, Devil’s Punch Bowl, Fat Man’s squeeze are some of the popular things to scope out on your visit. Majestic cliffs are composed of 300 million-year-old sandstone and provide great views for hikers.
