… AND GETTING AROUND Travelling around the Garden Isle is a pleasure – with buses, bicycles and trains all on offer, along with friendly advice from our Travel Ambassadors
Exploring the Island is easy and discovering those hidden beauty spots and unspoilt locations isn’t difficult at all. Leave the car behind and catch the bus for spectacular coastal views - there are also open-top “Breezer” tours, and a “hop on, hop off” Island Coaster service which has the capacity to carry bikes. Take in the stunning views from the top of a double-decker and let someone else do the driving!
We encourage you to ‘Drive Less, See More’, and on the eastern side of the Island that includes using the train. There’s a regular service operating from Ryde Pierhead which connects the towns of Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. Enthusiasts will recognise that the carriages providing this service are former London Underground electric trains, giving the Island Line it’s very own unique identity and appeal.
The Isle of Wight is a year round cyclist’s paradise, with over 500 miles of cycle and bridleways weaving their way through dramatic and contrasting Island landscapes. The “Bicycle Island” offers something for every cyclist, from multi-day tours to relaxing afternoon rides, and we recently scooped top spot in Lonely Planet’s “Top 10 World Cycling Routes.”
