Take an interesting stroll around Havenstreet Station and see a variety of locomotives and rolling stock, plus the original 1920s station building with its fully operational signalbox. Take a peek inside the Carriage and Wagon Workshop to see restoration work in action, and wander through our small exhibits museum before boarding your majestic steam train for a 10-mile round trip back in time.

Shopping at Havenstreet Station Younger visitors will love our range of affordable items and the all important ‘Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends’ toys, books, and games. The older visitor will enjoy browsing the many books and DVDs on sale, and choosing that special gift to share with family and friends back home. Plus, the IW Steam Railway Shop is now a leading Island outlet for model railway equipment and rolling stock! Haven Falconry At Havenstreet Station from 11.00am to 2.30pm every Sunday and Wednesday when trains are running, and on other selected operating days throughout the year. Our friends from Haven Falconry offer the opportunity to meet their magnificent Birds of Prey, and a flying display will commence at 1.40pm. Museum New Displays for 2013! Discover the smaller trappings of the Island’s railway heritage, with signalling equipment, station signs, nameplates, and a host of artefacts depicting a former way of life. Carriage and Wagon Workshop See restoration in action! Take a peek behind the scenes for a close-up view of wagons stripped-down for maintenance, or perhaps see the traditional skills of railway craftsmen at work as a once-abandoned carriage is painstakingly restored.

Telling the story of our Victorian and Edwardian railway vehicles, it will bring to life those swaggering locomotives, cheerful carriages and quirky wagons, uncovering their impact on all our lives … and what happened to them when no longer needed on the railways!

There is no road or footpath access to Smallbrook Junction. Smoking is not permitted in any part of our trains, or on any station platform or in any building on our premises. Accessibility The Isle of Wight Steam Railway offers full disabled access to Havenstreet Station, where our Shop, Museum, Refreshment Rooms and Carriage & Wagon Workshop are accessible for wheelchair users (excluding mobility scooters). Toilet facilities for wheelchair users are also available at Havenstreet Station, Wootton Station and Smallbrook Junction Station. We offer disabled access to most trains and our staff will always provide all possible assistance whenever required. However, our platform and trains cannot accommodate mobility scooters. Accessibility at Wootton Station is limited due to the gravel-surfaced slope approaching the station. There is wheelchair access to Smallbrook Junction via Island Line Trains, but please note that Island Line Trains cannot accommodate mobility scooters. Special Events 2013 • • • We stage numerous special events when the steam trains provide the perfect centrepiece for us to put on something extra … 24th March – IW Grand National & Ashey Scurry Travel in style to the famous races at West Ashey Farm by a Steam Powered Iron Horse! Park for FREE at Havenstreet Station then catch the steam train to Ashey Station for a day at the races. Event presented by IW Grand National & Ashey Scurry

29th, 30th, 31st March & 1st April – KIDS GO FREE! Enjoy the spectacle of the Island’s blossoming Spring-time countryside from the comfort of our steam trains! Kids Go FREE so there’s plenty to keep the youngsters occupied with magic shows and entertainment, colouring, crafts and an Easter Treasure Hunt. 7th April – ‘Bustival’ ‘Bustival’ – A festival of buses old and new! Come and marvel at vintage buses of all shapes and sizes, and browse the stalls and attractions. Vehicle Event presented by Southern Vectis

4th, 5th, & 6th May – The 8th Isle of Wight Real Ale Festival Relax in the ambience of Havenstreet Station with a pint of your favourite tipple as you watch the trains go by! Our 8th Isle of Wight Real Ale Festival features beers sourced from brewers on the Isle of Wight, the North of England and North of the Border. Plus there will be a range of food available and

a full service of steam trains will be operating. There’s FREE admission to the festival and on Saturday evening there will be a late complimentary bus to Ryde bus station. 11th May – Spring Time Walk – ‘Walk the Line’ (Part of the IW Walking Festival) Put a spring in your step with this unique opportunity to join a guided walk alongside the railway track through ancient woodland, unspoilt countryside and working farmland. 26th May – The Isle of Wight Festival of Transport Admire the workmanship, enjoy the memories and expect to be surprised! Come and see a unique collection of cars, bicycles, road engines, trucks, wagons and old charabancs, where every vehicle is someone’s ‘pride and joy’ and they want to show it off to you! 22nd June – The 5th Annual Midsummer Jazz The Island’s big summer jazz party event featuring the outstanding Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen, the high-energy Jive Aces and the brilliant young Tipitina. Enjoy a special evening of superb music in the beautiful setting of our natural tree-lined arena, while you and your friends enjoy a picnic under the stars! 29th June – A Midsummer Night’s Steam A new event for 2013! A rare evening service of steam trains! Chill-out on a summer’s evening and take ‘The Sundowner’ for a relaxing trip through the evening countryside – Then enjoy supper at sunset in The Calbourne Room or ‘alfresco’ in the Station Garden. (Trains will be running through the day as normal too!) 6th & 7th July – The 1940s Experience Extraordinary Times … Extraordinary People! Inspired music and dance … Silk stockings and military machines … Men in uniforms and spivs doing deals – pure nostalgia! Relive the hustle and bustle of a country railway station where war time activities collide with every day rural life. Enjoy songs of the era with The Three Belles, jitterbug with the Cinque Port Lindy Hoppers, and try the hairstyles and fashions of the day! See the farmyard threshing machine working in the shadow of a Spitfire fighter plane, then enjoy corned beef hash and spam fritters in The Refreshment Rooms, ales from The Spitfire Bar, and browse an array of civilian and military vehicles! 20th & 21st July – Victorian Weekend A living, breathing historical experience … Rediscover a forgotten world of Sherlock Holmes, Victorian maids, steam train travel, and ladies in bustle gowns. Be astonished with Mr Alexander’s Travelling Show featuring astounding acts of juggling, balancing, unicycling and all manner of skills. Watch as ‘Queen Victoria’ arrives from her home at Osborne by royal train, and take a trip down ‘memory lane’ with nostalgic music, while browsing the Victorian stalls offering a wealth of treasures. 27th, 28th & 29th July – The Railway Folk A new event for 2013! Meet ‘Ratchett’ the steam engine repairman and his niece Penny who likes nothing more than getting grubby in the workshop! You’ll be seeing a lot of them over these three days! But the chances of running trains on time don’t look good, as Mrs Cumberpatch the Booking Clerk knits and talks and talks and knits when she should be selling tickets while Burt the Engine Driver seems more interested in cooking his lunch. And why is Tamp the Trackman always digging holes? None of this will please Mr Beeching from the Ministry who wants everything ship-shape or he’ll close the railway! Featuring Dusty the Station Master, young Nipper, Smoke Box the station cat and a host of captivating new characters, this fascinating and imaginative street theatre will appeal to children aged 2 to 102! Special Events 2013 • • • 23rd – 26th August – The 39th Island Steam Show High falls, action stunts, fire-eating and knockabout comedy! Stunning shows in the main arena will make you gasp, cheer and laugh, while Mr. Alexander’s Travelling Show returns to enthrall and amuse, plus there’s live music on The Woodland Stage. See silly things to do with traction engines, and marvel at the fascinating working steam demonstrations. Climb aboard the traditional fairground rides or settle back for a steam train ride through the Island’s unspoilt countryside. Relish the sight of beautifully maintained vintage cars, motorcycles and old wagons, plus there are stalls, country crafts, and a good variety of refreshments. 1st September – Morris Minor Rally The first car to sell a million! The ‘Moggy Minor’ is fondly remembered and is still a muchloved car. See a host of these old classics at the annual Morris Minor Rally at Havenstreet Station. Autojumble, refreshments and train rides available!

The exhibition coincides with the UK-wide Heritage Open Weekend, so there will be plenty to see on and around the Railway, including guided tours of our restoration workshops. 28th & 29th September – Wine Festival Whether you have a ‘nose’ for fine wines or just enjoy quaffing a favoured tipple, our annual wine festival offers a selection of wines from around the World to taste and purchase. 5th & 6th October – Autumn Steam Gala A new event for 2013! 9th & 10th November – Hayling BILLY 50 A new event for 2013! A special weekend of trains to mark 50 years since the closure of the Hayling Island branch, featuring two terrier locos which formally served the branch – No. 8 ‘Freshwater’ and No. 11 ‘Newport’ – and possibly one further visiting Terrier.
